Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, a related engineering field, or equivalent real-world experience is required.
  • At least 8 years of experience in technical product management or equivalent roles, with exposure to hardware-software co-development or scientific instrumentation, is required.
  • Direct experience with Quantum Computing, Quantum Information Science, and/or AMO Physics is required.
  • Experience building a new market for a technology or commercializing a technology for the first time is required.
  • The candidate must be able to articulate complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The candidate must be able to act as a self-starting leader in ambiguous and challenging environments, driving impact through persistence and adaptability.
Responsibilities
  • Work internally and externally to build and communicate a strong point of view about customers and the ability of IonQ's and competitors' solutions to deliver on their needs.
  • Immerse yourself in IonQ's hardware roadmap, system software, experimental capabilities, and R&D pipeline.
  • Build deep working relationships with engineering program leads and understand the challenges and considerations informing key design decisions and customer delivery.
  • Build relationships with engineering to align capability advancements with business and customer outcomes.
  • Drive milestone alignment and clarity across in-flight hardware generations so capability demonstrations are coordinated across the company.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams to manage tradeoffs and adjust as the team learns.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to launch each new hardware generation across Internal, Cloud, and On-Prem markets and motions.
  • Define the product value proposition, positioning, and go-to-market strategy, and contribute to realization across Sales, Product Marketing, and Customer Success.
  • Work with customers, Customer Success, Applications Research, internal data, and scientists to understand product success, health, and quality in development and in market, and feed that learning into the next generation's design.
  • Establish a product vision, identify and prioritize requirements, define a product roadmap, inform go-to-market strategies, and drive them through realization and launch.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Physics, Quantum Information Science, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or a related engineering field.
  • Publications in QIS, AMO Physics, or adjacent fields and established relationships in the quantum computing research community.
  • Experience turning research-grade technologies into productized, customer-facing offerings, particularly where customers care about underlying capability rather than pricing and packaging.
  • Experience with Scientific Computing or High Performance Computing, including their tools, users, business models, and operational challenges.

IonQ sells quantum computing through cloud access and on-site systems that use trapped-ion qubits. Its processors, such as Forte and Tempo, are accessed by customers via cloud platforms or deployed on customer sites, and the company is expanding into quantum networking, quantum key distribution, and sensing through acquisitions and a SkyWater Technology deal. Pentagon awards IonQ $58M contract to produce shoebox-sized quantum clocks

IonQ has secured a $28 million contract modification from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop optical atomic clocks, with an option for an additional $30 million. The Maryland-based quantum technology company will produce 25 Evergreen-05 optical atomic clocks initially, with the potential for 100 more units if the option is exercised. IonQ is investing $15 million in manufacturing infrastructure to support production. The clocks will be used for radar, secure communications, and geolocation where GPS access is compromised. The Evergreen-05 is a shoebox-sized device that accumulates less than one second of timing error over 30 million years. It delivers timing stability of 50 femtoseconds at one second in approximately 1/75th the volume of an active hydrogen maser. The technology is designed for terrestrial, sea, and airborne military platforms.
