Requirements
  • A Master of Science or PhD in Aeronautics or Aerospace Engineering is required; candidates with a Bachelor of Science degree and direct research experience with the specified modeling and system-identification areas will also be considered.
  • Experience in rotorcraft flight-dynamics modeling through research projects or activities is required; coursework alone does not qualify.
  • Direct research experience with flight-dynamics models such as HeliUM, GenHel, FORECAST, or an equivalent tool is highly desirable.
  • Direct research experience with frequency-domain system identification for linear model development using tools such as CIFER is highly desirable.
  • Education or relevant experience in rotorcraft real-time simulation or system modeling using Simulink is a plus.
  • Software skills in FORTRAN, C, MATLAB, or Simulink are desirable.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop flight-dynamics models of modern vertical take-off and landing aircraft configurations, both crewed and uncrewed.
  • Provide flight-dynamics modeling support to the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program office.
  • Participate in Future Long Range Assault Aircraft design reviews and keep abreast of the aircraft's flight-dynamics modeling needs.
  • Support the development, updating, and validation of generic and specific physics-based models of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft tiltrotor.
  • Develop proficiency with the HeliUM comprehensive modeling tool to implement updates and enhancements needed to generate high-order linear models of advanced crewed and uncrewed vertical-lift configurations.
  • Develop proficiency with frequency-domain system-identification techniques using CIFER to develop accurate linear models of modern and enduring configurations.
  • Support development of a component-type model of the UH-60M based on an existing model of the UH-60A.
  • Support assessment and selection of the software development environment, planning and implementation of source-code modifications, and subsequent validation testing using flight data.

AMA Taps Joseph Poist as CEO

AMA taps Joseph Poist as CEO. The board of directors of Analytical Mechanics Associates has named Joseph Poist CEO after a comprehensive search, citing confidence in his leadership judgment, operational discipline and ability to execute strategy across complex, mission-critical environments. "I am humbled by the board's confidence and excited to lead this organization," Poist said. "The opportunity ahead is significant. My focus will be on clarity of direction, disciplined execution and building an enterprise that delivers and grows consistently." Before joining AMA, Poist served as a vice president at SAIC, leading a large business group supporting complex government missions. Earlier in his career, he served as chief of staff at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, helping oversee a portfolio of over $5 billion in annual programs and a workforce of over 10,000 civil servants and contractors across multiple locations nationwide. During his 14-year career as a civil servant, he also held senior financial leadership roles, including associate deputy chief financial officer for resources, with responsibility for guiding government programs from inception through delivery. Poist succeeds John Abrams as CEO. The board thanked Abrams for his leadership and contributions to the company and wished him continued success.
