Developer – Backend @ Panopto

Salary Range: 110000 to 130000 (Currency: USD) (Pay period: per-year-salary)

As we continue to support growth and expansion, we are seeking a Backend Software Developer who loves solving interesting technical challenges and enabling compelling customer experiences to help us build high-performance services.

Position Overview:

As a developer, you’ll be tasked with ensuring that all of our scalable systems remain robust while consistently delivering quick turnaround for an ever growing stream of requests and millions of hours of content a month. You’ll have opportunities to further simplify and streamline our ability to maintain our product, and to build fundamental architectural cornerstones that will empower the rest of the development team. This role will participate in our on-call rotation and be expected to respond to alerts outside of normal business hours when on-call. Other responsibilities may be assigned to help drive our vision and mission to alignment with our organization’s values.

Responsibilities:

Backend Engineering: This position will benefit from backend software engineering skills, drawing on knowledge of coding and doing technical designs in high scale systems Ability to rapidly prototype ideas and write quality code. A security oriented mindset and desire to build robust and secure systems.

Software Development: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC): CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc. Relational database expertise -- developing in the data layer and writing ad-hoc queries. Experience in automation frameworks (such as Jenkins), caching systems and web servers, running both Windows and Linux systems and Python development.

Detail Oriented: Ideal candidates have a strong attention to detail and desire to get to the bottom of how things work, a drive to take action and improve things where they can, along with a natural focus on ensuring an excellent customer experience.

Collaboration: Collaborating with others to build something with lasting impact

You’ll work with a team of talented engineers with a variety of areas of expertise, from devops to design, architecture to accessibility. The team’s experience level ranges from seasoned developers with well over a decade in industry to junior developers and contractors who are growing their roles and impact.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent amount of experience/training
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, parallel or distributed systems
Software engineering skills: componentization, automated testing, debugging, and coding/designing for fault tolerance
Clear and concise communication skills
A track record of, and passion for, transparency
Customer focus and a love for solving customer problems
A willingness to take on, drive, and maintain a variety of large and small projects
