Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Health Science is preferred.
  • A Medical Assistant certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant registration, EMT Basic certificate and license, or Phlebotomy certificate is preferred.
  • Zero to one year of related work experience is required.
  • Demonstrated Medical Assistant competencies are required within one year of hire.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and the ability to navigate web-based applications are required.
  • The employee must communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.
  • The employee must be able to provide patient care across neonatal, youth, young adult, middle-age, and elderly populations.
  • The employee must use required protective equipment and may be exposed to infectious diseases, airborne pathogens, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • The employee must be able to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds frequently, and stand or move for most of the shift.
  • Employees must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Develop empathetic relationships with patients, families, and colleagues through care-team coordination.
  • Facilitate patient flow, discuss visit reasons, update medication and allergy lists, review screening questions, and communicate delays.
  • Provide the provider with a hand-off covering the visit reason, abnormal vital signs, and relevant patient information.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, and weight; perform electrocardiograms, point-of-care testing, and phlebotomy; administer immunizations when certified; and assist with routine procedures.
  • Lead outreach and health-coaching conversations to support quality and population-health goals.
  • Identify and contact patients with health-maintenance or chronic-disease-management needs and assist with related data gathering.
  • Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies, keeping them clean, sterilized, stocked, and within expiration dates.
  • Use the electronic health record to queue prescription renewals, add medications for provider review, enter clinician-directed orders, and document completed tasks for billing.
  • Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests and verify insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications.
  • Identify Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance issues, follow patient-safety practices, report adverse events and near misses, and protect patient health information.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
