Requirements
  • Must be a second-year student, or a first-year student who has satisfied all competency requirements, actively attending an accredited educational radiology technology, vascular, or echocardiography program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or an accredited program recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Canadian Medical Association.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development credential is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Computer literacy, interpersonal communication, and preceptor skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist radiology, vascular, and echocardiography technologist staff by providing non-technical and supervised technical support to Radiology departments.
  • Expedite care through direct patient contact, including patient transportation, patient preparation, specimen transportation, and preparation of imaging rooms.
  • Care for patients of all ages under technologist supervision.
  • Operate imaging equipment pertaining to the specific modality of hire.
  • Produce quality imaging studies under the guidance, direction, and oversight of a registered technologist under direct supervision until competency is achieved, including surgical and mobile examinations and repeat images, while assuring patient safety.
  • Work under indirect supervision of a qualified technologist after achieving examination competency.
  • Perform post-processing of imaging studies as applicable.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, including magnetic resonance imaging safety screening where applicable.
  • Maintain imaging equipment.
  • Apply principles of As Low As Reasonably Achievable to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Apply patient safety principles during all aspects of patient care.
  • Use the Radiology Information System effectively.
  • Complete, review, and prepare paperwork; corroborate a patient's clinical history with the procedure; and ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and an ethical relationship with patients and medical records.
  • Support patient transportation.
