About the job
- Three years of healthcare experience are required.
- Three years of verification and/or financial experience are required, preferably in a specialty pharmacy.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic math skills are required.
- Understanding of insurance coverage gaps is required.
- The role requires negotiation ability, a caring and compassionate attitude, cooperative work with others, and the ability to act as a liaison between departments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- A professional image is required.
- Work directly with patients to negotiate copayment arrangements.
- Retrieve payment methods from patients for copayments and document them in the appropriate systems.
- Understand and coordinate assistance through pharmaceutical manufacturer programs and foundations for patients with little or no coverage, or refer patients to manufacturers when internal assistance is unavailable.
- Adhere to federal, state, and contractual regulations regarding copayment assistance.
- Act as the liaison between Billing, Patient Care Coordinators, and Collections to resolve financial-assistance issues related to prescription refills.
- Update patient information and software systems to accurately reflect negotiation outcomes.
- Respond promptly to assistance inquiries from patients and other departments.
- Stay updated on foundation and manufacturer programs related to the disease classes served.
- Attend departmental and other scheduled meetings.
- Prepare requested financial reports and submit them to the appropriate manager.
- Create and maintain tracking programs for financial-assistance reporting and manufacturer-assistance transfers as directed.
- Update sales personnel on assistance resolutions so they can update physician offices.
- Perform other duties as defined by the manager.
- Experience in verification and/or financials in a specialty pharmacy is preferred.
