Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Specialist - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

About the job
- A master's degree or doctoral degree in Nursing is required for the Clinical Nurse Specialist path.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required for the Nurse Specialist path.
- Nurse Specialist candidates must obtain a master's degree in Nursing or a doctoral degree in Nursing in a relevant specialty within five years of starting in the Nurse Specialist title.
- Three years of relevant clinical nursing experience are required.
- Clinical Nurse Specialist candidates must be licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Wisconsin.
- Clinical Nurse Specialist candidates must hold Clinical Nurse Specialist certification in the relevant specialty or population focus.
- Nurse Specialist candidates must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Wisconsin or hold a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact.
- Basic Life Support CPR certification is required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required within six months.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required within six months.
- Lead evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives within the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to improve outcomes for critically ill newborns and their families.
- Serve as the neonatal clinical expert by mentoring nurses, advancing nursing practice, implementing new technologies, and providing consultation for medically and surgically complex neonates.
- Support care for premature infants and newborns with complex surgical, cardiac, neurologic, genetic, metabolic, and congenital conditions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve neonatal care delivery, remove barriers to optimal patient outcomes, participate in research, and lead evidence-based practice change across the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to advance professional nursing practice, support staff development, and shape neonatal care.
- Three or more years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nursing experience are highly preferred.
- Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or in another nurse leadership role is preferred.
- Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
- Nurse Specialist candidates with an MSN or DNP within six months of the start date are preferred.
- Completion of a graduate program for Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.
- Previous experience in a nursing leader role is preferred.
- Certification in the specialty area of practice is preferred.
