About the job

Requirements
  • Hold a current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided, or a current multistate Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Alternatively, hold a current temporary or graduate Registered Nurse permit as required by the state board where services will be provided. Maryland does not issue temporary permits; applicants must document recent graduation from a school of nursing and obtain a permanent Registered Nurse license within 90 days of graduation. Ohio nurses must be currently licensed. Pennsylvania applicants must hold a current Registered Nurse Temporary Permit and obtain a permanent license before the temporary permit expires. West Virginia applicants must hold a current Registered Nurse Graduate Permit and obtain a permanent license before the permit expires. Temporary permits are valid only in the issuing state and are not multistate licenses.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate the novice-level knowledge and skills needed to provide age-appropriate patient care, apply principles of growth and development across the lifespan, and assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs.
  • Meet the physical demands of heavy/hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more.
  • Use lift equipment or other patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning as indicated by the patient profile and applicable algorithms; safe patient handling should minimize manual lifting and limit handling to 35 pounds.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable to the facility.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Deliver nursing care through the nursing process and exercise clinical judgment and accountability for care provided by oneself and delegated healthcare providers.
  • Provide direct patient care during an assigned shift within the nursing role and scope of practice.
  • Apply clinical decisions and consult expert peers or management when appropriate.
  • Identify common risks to patient health and initiate actions to correct, reduce, or prevent them.
  • Provide coordinated, comprehensive patient care through assessment, expected outcomes, nursing interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate patient-care tasks with patients and families within safe-practice guidelines, delegate tasks to assigned personnel, and follow up on task completion and patient responses.
  • Use standards of care and practice, scientific principles, research findings, and resources to guide care delivery; seek assistance or credible resources when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Evaluate patient responses to performed and delegated tasks, including patient-profile assessment for safe handling and mobility.
  • Set and revise direct and indirect patient-care priorities based on patient acuity and available resources, and update daily care plans with appropriate safe-patient-handling algorithms.
  • Use established patient-care support systems, including documentation, communication, and information systems.
  • Support the development of others, engage in mentoring and networking to promote professional development, and help integrate staff and students into the healthcare team and unit mission, values, and vision.
  • Promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level; exchange information relevant to patient assignments and interact with healthcare team members to meet patient-care needs.
  • Participate in performance-improvement activities as appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
