About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 2 years leading a team as a manager or tech lead.
  • Commitment to developing people through clear, actionable feedback, understanding what motivates different engineers, helping them take on skill-developing work, and addressing difficult conversations with care and candor.
  • Strong technical judgment to evaluate approaches and tradeoffs, recognize decisions requiring closer scrutiny, and help engineers make sound decisions independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, tailor messages to the audience, and share regular updates that give teammates and partners needed context.
  • Ability to delegate and exercise judgment about where to spend time and energy, when to trust engineers to lead, and how to support the team without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Business and product sense to weigh priorities, challenge scope based on customer needs and business goals, and explain why the work matters.
  • Ability to use AI extensively and help the team use it effectively, while holding the team accountable for reviewing, testing, and refining AI output.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities
  • Grow engineers' careers through regular one-on-ones, clear expectations, thoughtful feedback, and developmental coaching.
  • Ensure the team ships high-quality, maintainable code; set the team's overall technical direction and vision while giving engineers ownership of technical decisions and offering guidance when needed.
  • Partner with product and design to scope projects around customer needs and business goals, bringing in appropriate people across engineering and the wider business.
  • Keep delivery moving by coordinating dependencies across teams, surfacing risks early, and communicating changes in scope or timing.
  • Improve how the team works by addressing recurring friction in planning, collaboration, tooling, and development.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud.
