Position Overview
Thrive is seeking a detail-oriented, organized Accounts Payable Specialist to join our Finance team on a temporary basis. Reporting to the AP Manager, this role owns key parts of the AP cycle, from vendor onboarding and tax compliance through invoice processing, prepaid and fixed asset accounting, and month-end close support. This is a full-time temporary assignment (approximately 3 months, with the potential to extend or convert to a permanent role) and is a great fit for someone who can ramp up quickly, takes ownership, enjoys keeping the books clean, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Assignment Details
Duration: Approximately 3 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), US Remote, during core business hours.
Employment: W-2 temporary employment through Thrive's staffing partner; benefits eligibility per agency policy.
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Review, code, and process vendor invoices accurately and on schedule, ensuring proper GL coding, approvals, and adherence to Thrive’s AP policies
Partner with department leaders and budget owners across Thrive to obtain timely invoice approvals and resolve discrepancies
Validate deferral and amortization schedules for prepaid expenses (e.g., software licenses, maintenance contracts, insurance), ensuring accurate monthly expense recognition
Set up and record new fixed assets
Support new vendor onboarding: collect required documentation, W9, verify banking and remittance details, and set up vendors in the ERP with appropriate controls
Support year-end 1099 reporting, including identifying reportable vendors, validating TINs, reconciling payments, and preparing filings
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve outstanding balances, duplicate payments, or misapplied payments
Maintain accurate, up-to-date vendor master data and organized records of invoices, payments, and vendor correspondence
Assist with month-end close, including AP accruals, and AP subledger-to-GL reconciliations
Support internal controls and external audit requests with timely, well-documented information
Build positive relationships with vendors and internal teams, responding promptly to inquiries and helping improve AP processes as Thrive scales
Qualifications
Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
2+ years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting, ideally in a multi-entity or high-growth environment
Proven ability to ramp up quickly in an existing AP function with limited onboarding
Availability to commit to the full duration of the temporary assignment
Working knowledge of prepaid amortization, fixed asset capitalization, and basic accrual accounting
Familiarity with Form W-9 requirements and 1099 reporting (1099-NEC/1099-MISC)

Strong Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations)
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of ownership and integrity
