About the company

Element Biosciences makes DNA sequencing with the AVITI System, a compact benchtop NGS platform that pairs high accuracy with low run costs. The system delivers sequencing data at about $1 per million reads and can be integrated into workflows through partnerships with companies like QIAGEN for end-to-end solutions. The company stands out by offering affordable, high-quality sequencing and by supporting researchers with programs such as the AVITI for All Grant that provides free sequencing. Its goal is to broaden access to sequencing, enabling more projects within typical budgets across academic and commercial settings.

Element brings a $100 genome sequencer to Seoul with Samsung watching.

Element brings a $100 genome sequencer to Seoul with Samsung watching. Samsung's largest genomics bet used Seoul as the launch stage for Element's VITARI sequencer and its single-cell Cytos platform. Published: October 21, 2026 Element Biosciences chose Seoul to open a global roadshow, showing off a new benchtop sequencer and a single-cell platform in front of the Korean research institutions its biggest shareholder wants to reach. Chosunbiz and The Korea Herald both covered the October 20 event. VITARI is the sequencer. Element says it hits 99.99% accuracy, processes more than five times the data of its existing instruments per run, and pushes whole-genome analysis toward roughly $100 per person. It is available for pre-order with shipments due by the end of the year, and it runs whole-genome work for rare disease research, cancer gene analysis and single-cell RNA studies. Cytos is the complementary piece, reading morphology, protein expression and RNA expression from the same cell. Element expects the platform to find work in drug development and in cancer and immunology research where researchers want to watch a cell change before and after treatment. The Seoul stop is not incidental. Samsung Electronics became Element's largest shareholder in June with a $175M Series E investment, on top of earlier participation, and is hunting for precision medicine opportunities that combine the sequencer with its own AI, device and digital health businesses. Chief executive Molly He and chief technology officer Michael Previte presented in person. Researchers from Samsung Medical Center's genomic institute, KAIST, Yonsei University College of Medicine, the University of Tokyo and Queensland University of Technology joined to share cases. The roadshow continues in San Diego, Boston, Munich and Stockholm.

Element Biosciences ships Cytos, capturing four data types from a single cell in one run

Element Biosciences has shipped the first units of Cytos, a workflow that captures guide RNA, cell morphology, protein expression, and whole transcriptome from the same single cell in one run. The San Diego company says researchers previously had to choose between imaging data and deep molecular data. Cytos runs on Element's AVITI24 multiomic system and needs as little as 30 minutes of offboard prep. It is built for CRISPR and optical pooled screening, phenotypic drug discovery, and toxicity screens. Early users include bit.bio and Myllia Biotechnology. Cytos is available to order now. Element will present more at a virtual Multiomics Showcase on November 4.

Samsung bets $200M on DNA sequencing firm Element Biosciences to boost Galaxy Health ecosystem

Samsung Electronics has invested $175 million (approximately ₩270 billion) in US genetic analysis equipment company Element Biosciences, becoming its largest shareholder. This marks Samsung's second funding round in Element, following its Series D participation last year. Founded in 2017, Element specialises in DNA sequencing technology with 99.99% accuracy at reduced costs. Its multiomics platform analyses DNA, RNA, proteins and cellular changes through a single system, a capability particularly valuable for disease diagnosis and drug discovery. Samsung plans to integrate Element's genomic analysis technology with data from its Galaxy Health ecosystem, including Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring devices, to develop personalised healthcare services powered by AI. The investment aligns with Samsung's broader MedTech strategy, following previous acquisitions of companies like Samsung Medison and Sonio.

Samsung Electronics becomes largest shareholder in US gene sequencing firm Element Biosciences with $175M investment

Samsung Electronics has become the largest shareholder in Element Biosciences, a US-based genetic sequencing equipment company, following a $175 million investment in the firm's Series E funding round. This follows Samsung's participation in Element's Series D round in July 2024. Founded in 2017 in San Diego, Element develops DNA sequencing technology with 99.99% genome analysis accuracy and low costs. The company launched its AVITI mid-sized sequencing device in 2022 and is preparing to introduce VITARI, which increases analysis capacity fivefold whilst reducing costs by over half. Samsung aims to secure core technologies in the precision medicine market and strengthen growth drivers in medical devices, digital health and AI. The investment will not result in management control changes at Element.
