Requirements
  • Completion of an occupational therapy educational program recognized by the Oregon Occupational Therapy Licensing Board.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • A limited permit or Oregon occupational therapy license must be obtained at the time of appointment.
  • A current State of Oregon Occupational Therapy license is required.
  • The role requires the ability to lift 40 pounds, repeatedly carry equipment weighing more than 5 pounds, walk extensively on hard and soft surfaces, bend and reach frequently, and respond quickly and appropriately to urgent medical situations.
  • The role requires knowledge of inpatient medical environments and equipment such as oxygen, ventilation, and respiratory apparatuses.
Responsibilities
  • Prioritize patient care needs based on medical necessity, discharge planning, medical stability, and appropriateness for rehabilitation.
  • Evaluate patients and determine the appropriateness of referrals.
  • Identify rehabilitation potential and establish treatment goals, functional outcomes, quantitative measures, and target dates.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to achieve identified goals.
  • Document evaluations, treatment, and patient contacts in the medical record in compliance with DNV, OHSU, Oregon Administrative Rules, and third-party payer criteria.
  • Enter accurate service codes and bill patient-care time accurately.
  • Provide consultation, request orders, and guide the patient care team regarding activity and prevention of complications.
  • Perform and document skilled rehabilitation treatment, including direct treatment and caregiver, patient, and family education.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
  • Fabricate and adjust splints to meet patient needs.
  • Communicate patient needs and promote carryover of strategies and precautions with nursing staff and other caregivers.
  • Update the care team on continuing rehabilitation needs and plans as the patient's condition warrants.
  • Direct, support, and supervise COTAs, aides, and volunteers as required.
  • Develop and enhance patient-care programs and outcomes in the specialty area.
  • Provide evidence-based clinical instruction and supervision for occupational therapy students.
  • Ensure student completion of weekly goals and facilitate achievement of affiliation objectives.
  • Provide regular feedback and complete student evaluations on schedule.
  • Participate in supervision and training for students from other disciplines.
  • Address patient and family complaints and problems promptly, involving management when indicated.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams during multidisciplinary rounds and provide post-discharge rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Request and participate in patient and family conferences representing the department and advocating for rehabilitation needs.
  • Assist the care team in problem-solving related to vision, activities of daily living, and cognition impairments to enhance patient safety.
  • Educate physicians, fellows, residents, and other healthcare providers about rehabilitation, including medical necessity, referrals, and expected rehabilitation outcomes and intensity.
