- An Associate’s Degree in a related field and/or five years’ experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities or related supervisory/management experience in a residential setting.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Promote the independence and self-determination of individuals using person-centered practices focused on their strengths, preferences, and needs.
- Manage the holistic healthcare, nutrition, and wellness of individuals, including tracking appointments and communicating with the Community Medical Services, nurse, relevant doctors, and managers.
- Coordinate recreation and other community activities that promote individuals’ participation and independence.
- Encourage individuals’ independence and promote relationship building within the community and with natural supports.
- Manage and direct the overall flow of the shift, including assigning staff to appropriate individual ratios.
- Supervise direct support professionals and shift supervisors while promoting learning and development through continual coaching and mentoring.
- Model behaviors that support individuals’ independence and aspirational desires.
- Ensure that health and safety requirements are observed, including maintaining a stimulating and comfortable physical environment.
- Facilitate individuals’ participation in recreational activities and medical appointments by coordinating transportation activities for the residence.
- Manage individuals’ personal property and their ability to access personal items.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies within mandatory time frames.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of Services for the Underserved and perform additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Program Director or designee.
- AMAP certification, SCIP-R certification, and CPR and First Aid are preferred but not required; on-the-job training is provided.
- Behavior Technician training is preferred.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Windows.
S:US provides services and advocacy for New Yorkers facing homelessness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral health and addiction challenges, poverty, criminal justice involvement, and trauma. It supports tens of thousands of individuals and families in New York City and Long Island with about 1,800 staff.
