Requirements
  • A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, obtained from a Department of Veterans Affairs-approved school for the year of completion.
  • An active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • An NPI report printout.
  • An active Drug Enforcement Administration license.
  • The ability to pass a federal background investigation.
  • The ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • The ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • The ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
  • The ability to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret mutational and molecular genetic testing to guide chemotherapeutic agent prescribing.
  • Complete life-sustaining therapy conferences with patients and family members.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions, and treat diseases and disorders of the blood, spleen, lymph glands, and immunologic system, including anemia, clotting disorders, sickle cell disease, hemophilia, leukemia, and lymph node disorders.
  • Administer chemotherapeutic agents and biological response modifiers through all therapeutic routes.
  • Perform apheresis procedures.
  • Manually analyze blood tests, including blood counts, platelets, and white-cell differentials.
  • Perform diagnostic lumbar punctures.
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow biopsies, and touch preparations, and interpret bone marrow biopsies.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic paracentesis.
  • Manage indwelling venous access catheters.
  • Perform therapeutic thoracentesis.
