Responsibilities
  • Technical leadership for a DWDM line system design
  • Close alignment with Product Line Management on product requirements
  • Architecture of a DWDM line system considering fiber and line system elements’ transmission characteristics, including signal power/OSNR evolution and fiber nonlinearities
  • Developing key hardware specifications and baseline designs for new optical line system cards including optical amplifiers, ROADMs and optical multiplexers
  • Own the detailed hardware and software design documentation used by development, test and field teams and review with multi-site engineering teams

  • Demonstration of new optical transmission technologies to key customers

The Bengaluru startup that chose truck drivers over self-driving cars and built a $1.34 billion unicorn. Netradyne's rise to a $1.34 billion valuation reflects a deliberate bet on edge AI, commercial fleet safety and data-driven driver monitoring rather than fully autonomous vehicles. But as the Bengaluru-San Diego startup expands globally, it faces questions over competition, distribution, India's adoption economics and whether regulation can unlock its next phase of growth. By Rudra Pratap Singh August 12, 2026, 12:11:43 AM IST (Published) At 3:00 AM on a stretch of Interstate 80 in Ohio, a two-ton freight truck drifts three inches over the lane marker. Inside the cab, an edge-AI processor mounted to the windshield registers the tilt, cross-references it with the driver's eyelid closure rate via an inward-facing lens. No prompt engineering. No cloud roundtrip. No conversational banter. Just a sharp, localised chime. The maker, Netradyne, is a less glamorous hardware-plus-software setup with dual headquarters in Bengaluru and San Diego became a unicorn in January 2025 11 years after its founding - after Point72 Private Investments led a $90 million Series D funding round. | Netradyne | Amount | | Latest valuation | $1.34 billion | | Total equity raised | $350 million | | FY25 Revenue | ₹293.5 crore ($3 billion) | | Profit after tax (FY25) | ₹13.8 crore ($1.4 million) | Knowing your limits helps Qualcomm veterans Avneesh Agrawal and David Julian, later joined by former Nokia and Microsoft engineer Teja Gudena, wanted to explore autonomous driving or smart city surveillance. It took the team very little time to realise that full Level 4 or Level 5 autonomous driving was a financial sinkhole, a decade-long science project with zero near-term cash flow. There was a discussion should we invest into autonomous driving, or smart surveillance. Finally, we decided we want to build some product which will also give us some kind of revenue as a startup, which is also very important," recalls Teja Gudena, EVP of Engineering. Instead of chasing robotaxis, Netradyne bet on an intermediate step: Level 2 edge-computing retrofits for existing commercial fleets. The engineering premise behind their flagship hardware, Driver·i, was deceptively simple: Dual-Camera Edge Compute: Two cameras (road-facing and driver-facing) recording at 30 frames per second. On-Device Inference: Rather than streaming gigabytes of raw video over expensive cellular networks to the cloud, the detection logic, traffic light recognition, tailgating math, and drowsiness tracking run locally on the windshield mount within milliseconds. Cloud Logging: Only flagged events, positive behaviour metrics, and compressed metadata are pushed to the fleet manager's dashboard. "Except for the machine learning and artificial intelligence, the Nokia platform and the mobile-phone platform we built are pretty much the same as what we're building today," notes Teja Gudena, EVP of Engineering. "We're just building it with much more compute capability on the edge." By keeping the inference on the edge, Netradyne solved the massive bandwidth cost problem that killed early cellular-based telematics startups like xx, yy and zz. The compute problem was solved, but a more fundamental question for any business remained unanswered: who would actually pay for it? In the United States, commercial transport safety is an insurance arbitrage game. If a freight truck collides with a passenger vehicle, American trial lawyers routinely sue the fleet operator for systemic negligence. A single ruling can bankrupt a mid-sized carrier. For a US fleet manager running 2,000 trucks, paying a monthly subscription fee per vehicle for Driver-i isn't an R&D expense; it is a legal defence premium. If the camera proves the truck driver hit the brakes 1.2 seconds before an erratic sedan cut them off, the video pays for the entire fleet's subscription for five years. Why doesn't it work in India, yet? Low Liability Costs: Indian tort law does not dole out tens of millions of dollars in accident damages. The immediate financial threat of an accident is downtime and vehicle repair, not ruinous litigation. Cheap Labour vs. Costly Hardware: When an Indian fleet operator running 10 trucks looks at the cost of an advanced edge-AI dashcam, software license, and cellular data plan, they run a simpler calculation: Why buy an AI camera when I can pay ₹15,000 a month for an assistant driver to sit in the left seat and keep the driver awake? The Trust Deficit: In fragmented markets where drivers are paid on tight per-trip margins, inward-facing cameras are viewed as intrusive surveillance. Devices get covered with tape, unplugged, or intentionally damaged. Netradyne's response to this distrust has been to gamify its "GreenZone" score and "DriverStars" reward system, which incentivise good driving rather than just penalise violations. While this soft psychology works well for corporate enterprise fleets in India such as GreenLine Mobility's LNG trucks, Nestlé India, and aviation fuelling providers like Bharat Stars Services it barely scratches the surface of the long tail of independent Indian truck owners. The $350 Million Flywheel: Data Moat or Capital Trap? To justify a $1.34 billion valuation in a market crammed with well-funded competitors like Samsara ($15B+ market cap), Motive (formerly KeepTruckin), and Radius, Netradyne pitches its data moat. "Our fleet so far has driven 30 billion miles and every month, our fleet is driving 1 billion miles. You cannot buy or generate this data. There is no shortcut," says Gudena. Between its Series D in January 2025 and mid-2026, Netradyne's pool of analysed driving footage expanded from 18 billion miles to over 25 billion miles. The Counter-Narrative: Is Data Enough? While 25 billion miles is an impressive technical milestone, in the hardware-adjacent SaaS world, data moats are rarely an alternative to distribution moats. Samsara does not need superior edge-AI detection models to win enterprise deals; it wins because it offers a full-suite platform covering asset tracking, reefer temperature monitoring, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and fuel management on a single invoice. Netradyne's point-solution focus on vision safety makes it vulnerable to all-in-one telematics vendors who can bundle "good enough" safety cameras into an existing contract for cheap. This pressure explains Netradyne's M&A activity in mid-2026, notably its acquisition of Noove Connected Mobility, a Netherlands-based company Netradyne didn't buy Moove for its deep learning algorithms; it bought Moove to acquire European boots on the ground, localised enterprise relationships, and an established distribution channel to challenge Samsara's expanding global footprint. Hoping for a MoRTH mandate Netradyne is actively working with industry groups, and consulting with India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Minister Nitin Gadkari has repeatedly signalled an intent to mandate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and drowsiness monitoring in heavy commercial vehicles to curb India's staggering road fatality stats. We are working with Mr. Nitin Gadkari's office... they are actually sincerely working to see how to mandate some of these driver monitoring systems. At least they want to start with commercial fleets. So sooner or later that might come," says Gudena. If MoRTH converts these proposals into a hard statutory requirement, Netradyne's India opportunity would transform overnight from a luxury purchase into a legal necessity mirroring the US litigation dynamic.

Qatar's Ooredoo, Nvidia and Nokia launch $13B AI platform targeting Southeast Asia

Qatar's Ooredoo Group, Nvidia, and Nokia have launched Zankore, Indonesia's first dedicated AI compute and neocloud platform. The venture aims to contract 1 gigawatt of AI capacity over three years. Zankore has secured customers for around 200 megawatts of AI capacity planned for the first half of 2027, expected to generate approximately $13 billion in revenue and $9 billion in cumulative EBITDA over five to six years. Ooredoo's proportionate EBITDA contribution is projected at $600 million. As lead investor with a 49% share, Ooredoo is committing $800 million over five years. The platform will offer GPU-as-a-Service, enabling enterprises to develop, train, and deploy AI models. The initiative targets Southeast Asia's rapidly growing AI infrastructure market, where data centre capacity demand is projected to quadruple from 2.6 gigawatts in 2025 to 10.7 gigawatts by 2035.

August 4, 2026 Nokia has open-sourced its Neural Network Post Filter (NNPF), bringing the first AI-based video enhancement technology into international video standards and enabling higher-quality streaming with existing codecs instead of proprietary solutions. Nokia has open-sourced its Neural Network Post Filter (NNPF), an AI-powered implementation that enhances compressed video quality after decoding on compatible consumer devices. According to Nokia, it is the first AI-based video enhancement technology to be integrated into international video standards. NNPF applies a neural-network post-processing filter to recover visual details lost during video compression. Rather than introducing a new codec, it works alongside existing standards such as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and Versatile Video Coding (VVC) using Versatile Supplemental Enhancement Information (VSEI) and Supplemental Enhancement Information (SEI) metadata to identify and apply the appropriate neural-network model during playback. Nokia researchers Miska Hannuksela and Jill Boyce contributed to the Versatile Supplemental Enhancement Information standard, which defines how this metadata is carried with coded video. If widely adopted, the technology could help streaming providers improve perceived video quality, reduce video CDN costs and make better use of AI acceleration already available in modern consumer devices, without abandoning established compression formats. Deployment will still require support from encoding platform providers, chipmakers, device manufacturers and video application developers. The release also highlights the contrast between open and proprietary AI video enhancement approaches. While NVIDIA's AI enhancement is tied to RTX GPUs and restrictive SDK licensing, Intel's OpenVINO demonstrates growing support for open AI inference across CPUs, GPUs and NPUs.
