About the job

Requirements
  • B.Tech or B.E. in Agricultural Engineering, Irrigation and Water Management, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Four to eight years of hands-on experience designing and commissioning irrigation systems on projects of comparable scale, including individual project sites of 50 acres and above and a portfolio running into several hundred acres.
  • Strong, demonstrable expertise in drip irrigation design, hydraulics, installation, fertigation integration, and in-season maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of drip, sprinkler, micro-sprinkler, rain gun, mini-sprinkler, furrow and surface, centre pivot, and semi-permanent portable irrigation systems, with the judgment to select the appropriate method for a field.
  • Sound understanding of farm-level water infrastructure, including borewells, open wells, farm ponds, sumps, pump and motor selection, water quality, and filtration requirements.
  • Familiarity with the product ranges and technical specifications of major irrigation original equipment manufacturers and the ability to compare systems on technical merit.
  • Familiarity with government micro-irrigation schemes and standards, including PMKSY and state horticulture department norms, and the technical documentation they require.
  • Comfort with irrigation design software, AutoCAD, and spreadsheet-based hydraulic and cost modelling.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and spend the majority of working time at project sites anywhere in India.
  • A valid driving licence, with a four-wheeler licence preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Survey each new project site for topography, soil type, water source, water quality, discharge, and availability, and determine the irrigation requirement for the crop and acreage.
  • Assess pre-existing irrigation infrastructure and establish what can be reused, upgraded, or replaced.
  • Select the appropriate irrigation method for each site and justify the choice on agronomic and technical grounds.
  • Match the irrigation method to crop economics while maintaining adequate and timely water delivery.
  • Prepare hydraulic designs, layouts, and Bills of Quantity covering mainlines, sublines, laterals, emitters and spacing, filtration, venturi and fertigation units, valves, air-release and flush assemblies, pump and motor sizing, and head-loss calculations.
  • Design relocatable systems where crop and inter-row spacing allow, maximizing salvage value when systems move to another site.
  • Draft the technical and functional specification for each system for the supply chain team to take to market.
  • Assess supplier proposals against the technical specification, flag gaps and deviations, and provide written technical recommendations.
  • Support Total Cost of Ownership and Cost Benefit Analysis calculations, including cost per acre and expected payback.
  • Coordinate with the supply chain team on technical matters while it owns quotations, negotiation, and supplier selection.
  • Supervise installation at site, including trenching, laying, jointing, pressure testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Verify that materials delivered to site match the approved technical specification.
  • Train REPs and field teams on operation, valve and zone scheduling, filter cleaning, flushing, and routine maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot in-season clogging, pressure variation, uneven discharge, leakages, and pump problems, and fix root causes.
  • Work with the Agronomy team to convert crop nutrition plans into executable fertigation schedules, including injection rates, compatibility, and timing.
  • Track water use, uniformity, and system performance through the season, and report to Program Management for production reporting and decision-making.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with horticulture, plantation, or high-value field crops.
  • Experience with relocatable or modular irrigation systems.
  • Exposure to soil moisture sensing, automation, or remote monitoring of irrigation.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals for an owner or client organization rather than for a supplier.

About the company

FinAgra mobilizes capital, agronomy expertise, and technology to rural farmers to transform fragmented farmland into scalable, high-yield operations. It does this through three pillars: scaling inputs and land access, integrating climate-smart agronomy and precision tools, and supporting local rural entrepreneurs with an operating model and guidance. By aggregating land, equipping farms with best-practice inputs, and empowering local leadership, it creates larger, more efficient farms. Its goal is to build productive agricultural ecosystems that raise yields, boost farm incomes, and strengthen rural communities.
