HAL Q3 2026 deep dive: international growth and margin expansion shape Halliburton's outlook.

HAL Q3 2026 deep dive: international growth and margin expansion shape Halliburton's outlook. Anthony lee /. October 20, 2026 Oilfield services company Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) reported Q3 2026 results beating Wall Street's revenue expectations, with sales up 1.8% year on year to $5.70 billion. Its non-GAAP profit of $0.60 per share was 2.6% above analysts' consensus estimates. Halliburton (HAL) Q3 2026 highlights: * Revenue: $5.70 billion vs analyst estimates of $5.59 billion (1.8% year-on-year growth, 2.1% beat) * Adjusted EPS: $0.60 vs analyst estimates of $0.58 (2.6% beat) * Adjusted EBITDA: $1.03 billion vs analyst estimates of $1.02 billion (18% margin, in line) * Operating Margin: 10.9%, up from 6.4% in the same quarter last year * Market Capitalization: $27.98 billion StockStory's take. Halliburton's results for the third quarter were driven by robust international demand and operational execution, particularly outside North America. Management pointed to growth in the Drilling & Evaluation segment and increased activity in the Middle East and Latin America as key contributors. CEO Jeffrey Allen Miller emphasized, "Our international business, in fact, all of our businesses outside of North America hydraulic fracturing, are the strongest they have been in many years." Despite softness in North America's hydraulic fracturing activity, deliberate cost controls and technology-led differentiation supported improved operating margins. Looking forward, Halliburton's guidance is anchored on continued international expansion, efficiency gains from recent technology investments, and a disciplined focus on high-value markets. Management expects mid-single-digit revenue growth in the coming year, underpinned by a strong pipeline of new contracts and the ramp-up of automation and artificial lift technologies across multiple regions. CFO Eric J. Carre highlighted, "About half of [margin improvement] is going to come from cost savings, operating cost savings, structural cost savings and the ramp down of the SAP S/4 program." The company's outlook assumes flat North American activity, treating any potential recovery there as additional upside. Key insights from management's remarks. Management attributed the quarter's performance to international strength, growth in specialized drilling and production services, and ongoing cost discipline, while highlighting strategic wins in emerging markets and the impact of technology-first solutions. * International business momentum: Halliburton's international operations, especially in the Middle East, delivered sequential growth despite inflationary pressures, with notable wins in Saudi Arabia and new activity in Venezuela. Management credited technology adoption and early customer engagement for these gains. * Drilling & Evaluation outperformance: The Drilling & Evaluation division exceeded expectations, with improved margins driven by complex well solutions and automation, such as the iCruise rotary steerable system and HyperSteer drill bits, particularly in the U.S., Middle East, and Latin America. * Production services growth: The company's global push in production services and artificial lift technologies continued, evidenced by new contracts in Argentina, the UAE, Congo, and Brazil. The start-up of a North Sea frac vessel and the first ZEUS fleet in Argentina were highlighted as milestones. * Cost structure optimization: Structural cost savings and the completion of the SAP S/4 transformation are expected to further streamline operations, with management targeting substantial cost reductions to support margin expansion. * Strategic market expansion: Halliburton reported progress in reopening and expanding operations in Venezuela, with management citing increased customer interest and early revenue contributions from multiple product lines as signs of long-term potential. Drivers of future performance. Halliburton's outlook for the next year centers on international market strength, efficiency initiatives, and expanding high-margin service lines, with operational execution and geopolitical uncertainty remaining key variables. * International growth engines: Management expects continued double-digit international growth, led by drilling, production services, and artificial lift. Recent wins in Brazil, Argentina, and the Middle East, as well as increased adoption of automation and digital solutions, are set to drive revenues and profitability. * Margin expansion through efficiency: About half of targeted margin improvement is expected from cost reductions, including benefits from the SAP S/4 transition and structural cost measures. These efforts are designed to offset inflationary pressures and support Halliburton's plan for mid-teens operating margins. * Potential North America upside: While guidance assumes flat North American frac activity, management sees potential for upside if customer budgets and rig counts improve. CEO Miller noted that any recovery in this segment would be accretive but is not required for the company's growth targets. Catalysts in upcoming quarters. In the upcoming quarters, the StockStory team will be monitoring (1) the pace of international contract awards and execution, particularly in the Middle East, Latin America, and offshore markets; (2) the impact of cost savings initiatives and SAP S/4 implementation on margins and free cash flow; and (3) any signs of recovery or further tightening in North American hydraulic fracturing activity. The trajectory of geopolitical risks and customer budget cycles will also be important indicators for Halliburton's near-term performance. Halliburton Q3 revenue hits $5.7B as international growth offsets North America slump

Halliburton reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $5.7 billion, ahead of expectations, with adjusted operating income of $731 million. International revenue rose 9% year-over-year to $3.5 billion, while North America fell 9% to $2.2 billion as the frac market failed to recover as expected. The company repurchased about $250 million of stock and spent $266 million on capital expenditures. Free cash flow fell from the second quarter, hit by lower collections and inventory build-up tied to its SAP implementation. For the fourth quarter, Halliburton expects flat revenue of about $5.7 billion and earnings per share of $0.62 to $0.64. For 2027, it forecasts mid-single-digit revenue growth and operating margins up about 200 basis points to roughly 15%, helped by cost savings and new contract startups.

Halliburton targets mid-single-digit 2027 growth and $500M–$600M profit gain without a frac rebound

Halliburton expects mid-single-digit revenue growth in 2027, it said on its third-quarter earnings call on October 20, 2026. The energy services provider plans this without any recovery in North American hydraulic fracturing. It projects operating margins to rise by 2 percentage points, or 200 basis points, yielding $500 million to $600 million in operating profit. About half of that comes from structural cost cuts and the wind-down of its SAP S/4 software programme. Revenue should end 2026 near $22.5 billion, with about $1 billion more in 2027. International markets are also set to add growth. Halliburton generated revenue in Venezuela in the third quarter across multiple product lines, and chief operating officer Shannon Slocum expects solid growth there.
