Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Perform and document complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Perform age-appropriate histories and physical examinations independently for patients.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patients' age-specific needs.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implement interventions to support patients in regaining or maintaining physiologic stability.
  • Assist with providing care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitate patients' transitions within and between health care settings, including admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision-making by providing educational tools.
  • Participate as a member of the patient management team and act as a liaison between inpatient staff, outside providers, insurance companies, and patients to provide complete patient care.
  • Prepare faculty clinics before their scheduled dates and help facilitate the clinics to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • Assist with new and follow-up patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Facilitate the correct ordering of studies and procedures during faculty clinics.
  • Serve as the first clinical point of contact for patients and provide clinical support throughout the continuum of care.
  • Manage patients' clinical requests, including medication refills, ordering durable medical equipment and services, and completing necessary paperwork and letters.
  • Perform and assist with medical procedures, with or without direct physician supervision, within the scope of the license or certification.
  • Provide patient education and participate in patient and family interventions.
  • Follow postoperative patients, monitor for postoperative complications, and ensure that patients have the resources necessary for recovery.
  • Ensure the appropriate application of critical pathways.
  • Consult with patients and prospective patients and families by phone.
  • Evaluate and triage the need for care and advise regarding appropriate interventions, including the need for emergency treatment.
  • Consult with other professionals regarding patient-care decision-making as needed.
  • Participate in decision-making with patients by providing information about pathophysiology and the benefits and risks of treatment options.
  • Coordinate research and clinical trials, including Human Subjects Research Committee communication, consent forms, and patient recruitment.
  • Coordinate data collection and patient activities, including clinical follow-ups, in clinical research.
  • Assist with clinical and administrative staff development and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Acute Care Certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in Orthopaedic Trauma is preferred.
