About the company

Bank of America runs one of the largest US banks, serving consumers, small businesses, wealthy families, corporations and institutional investors. Alongside checking accounts, credit cards, mortgages and business loans, it owns the Merrill brokerage, a private bank for wealthy clients and a global investment bank that advises on deals and trades stocks and bonds. Customers reach it through thousands of branches and ATMs and its mobile banking app. It earns money mainly from the gap between what it charges on loans and pays on deposits, plus fees from advice, asset management, deal work and trading. It grew from a San Francisco bank founded in 1904 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

BofA raises Western Digital target to $800 despite slower capacity growth

Bank of America (BofA) raised its Western Digital price target to $800 from $720 on October 21, even as it cut its forecast for storage-capacity shipment growth. Analyst Wamsi Mohan expects fiscal first-quarter exabyte shipments to rise 21% from a year earlier, below management's longer-term target of about 25%. He expects average price per terabyte to rise 24%, as demand for hard drives still exceeds supply. BofA raised its fiscal 2027 earnings estimate to $22.37 per share from $19.17. It applies a lower 16-times earnings multiple, down from 19. Western Digital reports results on October 22. BofA expects revenue of $4.22 billion and adjusted earnings of $4.29 per share. Shares closed at $378.51 on October 21, up 3.89%.

Bank of America flags $300B Google capex bill for 2027 as AI spending soars

Bank of America expects Alphabet to spend about $301 billion on capital expenditure in 2027, up from $199 billion in 2026, as it builds data centres and AI chips. The bank keeps a Buy rating and a $430 price target on the stock, but asks whether Google's AI and cloud businesses can generate enough cash to cover the bill. Alphabet posted $119.8 billion in second-quarter sales, up 24%. Google Cloud grew 82% to $24.8 billion. For the third quarter, the bank forecasts negative free cash flow of $12.4 billion, against about $3.9 billion expected by other analysts. It expects Search growth to slow to 14% from 17%, while Cloud accelerates to 93%. Alphabet reports earnings on October 28.

iPhone Duo waits are 50 days at US carriers versus 102 at Apple, Bank of America says

Buyers of Apple's iPhone Duo foldable may wait far less by ordering through US carriers. A Bank of America note dated October 19 puts the average carrier wait at about 50 days, against 102 days on Apple's own store. The global weighted average wait stands at 82 days. China, Japan, the UK, Germany, France and Australia all show 95 days, pushing delivery to about January 22. Analyst Wamsi Mohan said carrier availability "appears to be much better than Apple's own website," possibly due to varying inventory allocations. Carrier purchases usually tie buyers to that carrier's instalment plan. Wait times for the iPhone 18 Pro are shrinking, falling to eight days globally and four in China. Apple reports September quarter results on November 2.
