Job Description

About the Role

The Registered Nurse II provides comprehensive outpatient nursing care to adults living with sickle cell disease. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patient needs, develops and implements individualized plans of care, coordinates services, provides health education, and evaluates patient outcomes.

This role works closely with providers and multidisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care, support patients in managing their health, and create a safe, respectful, and supportive care environment. The RN also contributes to clinical excellence through critical thinking, professional accountability, teamwork, and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and individualized outpatient care.
• Collaborate with providers and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care and improve patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, health management, and ongoing care needs.
• Recognize changes in patient conditions, identify clinical priorities, and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Promote a safe, supportive environment that respects each patient's dignity, privacy, and individual needs.
• Support effective teamwork, professional nursing standards, and continuous quality improvement.
• Participate in professional development and initiatives that promote clinical excellence.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, unless the applicant is a current MUSC employee.
• Associate Degree or Diploma Nurses: RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an associate degree or diploma in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
• Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license through the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Certifications: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
