Catawiki is an online marketplace that runs weekly auctions for rare and distinctive items across categories like art, antiques, classic cars, and jewelry. Items are listed by sellers and are curated and verified by experts to ensure authenticity and quality, after which they are auctioned to buyers. The platform makes money by taking a commission on each sale. What sets Catawiki apart is the combination of expert authentication and curation with a recurring weekly auction format, helping buyers discover trusted, one-of-a-kind pieces while giving sellers a consistent channel to reach collectors and enthusiasts. The company aims to grow its catalog and audience by expanding categories and improving the user experience, so more people can buy and sell distinctive items in a secure marketplace.

Dutch comic shop Barabas celebrates 20th anniversary with special comic art auction. Catawiki, the online European auction site is currently hosting an exclusive Dutch Language Comics Auction celebrating the 20th anniversary of trading for Holland's specialist comic book store and antiquarian shop Stripwinkel Barabas, located in 's-Gravendeel. The shop regularly hosts auctions of comic art, on Catawiki and Bobbedoes, some of it British alongside plenty of homegrown gems, translated into Dutch for titles such as Sjors. They also offer a wide range of art for direct sale, just like Book Palace here in the UK, and are known for producing special limited editions. The current Dutch Language Comics Auction on Catawiki includes a "Trigan Empire" page by Don Lawrence, with Dutch word balloons; a glorious New Year "Billy Bunter" page by Reg Parlett, in which Billy is more interested in scoffing than dancing, to his cost; and a "Robot Archie" page with art by Bert Bus created under license from IPC for the Dutch title Sjors in 1973, that sees Archie riding a mammoth! As Downthetubes has previously noted, "Robot Archie" began running in the Dutch weekly Sjors in 1963, reprinting tales from Archie's original appearances in Lion. When Archie disappeared from Lion in 1971, new stories continued to appear in Holland. These were largely written and drawn by leading Dutch artist Bert Bus, who died in 2017, aged 86, a creator who whose widow described him for whom "drawing was everything". The Dutch Language Comics Auction auction, full catalogue here, which also includes plenty of Blake and Mortimer rarities, runs until Saturday 5th September 2026. All items can be shipped to the UK winners and Catawiki lot pages include a guide to potential additional shipping costs caused by customs charges etc. Head downthetubes for... - Barabas is at Strijensedijk 1, 3295 KL 's-Gravendeel Nederland | Online (in Dutch) at profbarabas.nl | Buy artworks direct | Regular auction offerings on Catawiki and Bobbedoes Explore Robot Archie's Dutch adventures! After a record year, Catawiki doubles down on product and customer experience with two executive appointments. Amsterdam, 14 July 2026 - Catawiki, Europe's leading online marketplace for special objects, announces two senior leadership appointments, with Daniel Alonso Moreno joining as Chief Product Officer (CPO) and Antonio Mena Salim joining as Vice President of Shipping. Together, the appointments reflect Catawiki's continued investment in further enhancing the buyer and seller experience, through product innovation and a seamless end-to-end customer journey. The company is building on strong commercial momentum after a record year, following record profitability in 2025, Q1 2026 revenue growth of nearly 30% year-on-year and first-time bidders reaching an all-time high. Catawiki recently launched Catawiki Live, bringing a live auction experience to the platform, alongside innovative new auction formats like 24-hour and one-hour auctions. These developments underscore Catawiki's broader focus on making every interaction with the marketplace more engaging, intuitive and customer-centric. Chief Product Officer - Daniel Alonso Moreno will join Catawiki's Management Team in October and will lead the company's Product & UX teams, overseeing the next phase of product development across the marketplace. Daniel Alonso Moreno Daniel brings more than 15 years of experience building and scaling consumer technology products at the intersection of retail, e-commerce and marketplaces. Most recently, he served as Chief Product & Technology Officer at Qida, a B-corp certified company focused on the silver economy. Vice President of Shipping - Antonio Mena Salim will join Catawiki in September to strengthen the shipping experience across its global marketplace. Antonio will lead the company's efforts to further improve this journey as Catawiki continues to grow internationally. Antonio Mena Salim Antonio brings more than 20 years of experience in global supply chain, logistics, operations and procurement across e-commerce, logistics and consulting environments.
