Grindr app to host event for White House Correspondents' Dinner Weekend.

Grindr app to host event for White House Correspondents' Dinner Weekend. April 10, 2026 Renowned LGBTQ dating app Grindr has officially joined forces with the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) for its upcoming dinner party. The California-based organization is all set to headline the dinner before the main event, making it their first-ever time hosting such a night. Grindr to host its first White House Correspondents' Dinner weekend party. The popular dating app will headline its inaugural 'White House Correspondents' dinner Weekend Party' on April 24, which will occur one night before the actual WHCA dinner. Also sarcastically referred to as "Nerd Prom," the dinner party will take place in Washington's Georgetown. According to a report published by The Hill, the invitation to the Grindr-hosted event states that it will "bring together policymakers, journalists, and LGBTQ community leaders as we toast the First Amendment." In a statement to ITK, Joe Hack, Grindr's head of global government affairs, revealed why the dating company decided to partner with the events linked to the White House Correspondents' Dinner Weekend. "Grindr represents a global community with real stakes in Washington," he said, adding, "The issues being debated here - HIV funding, privacy and online safety, LGBTQ+ family rights - are daily life for our community." Hack further noted, "Nobody does connections like Grindr, and WHCD weekend is the most iconic place in the country to make them. We figured it was time to host." Traditionally, the White House Correspondents' Dinner happens on an annual basis, with the President also attending the event on most iterations. Every President, barring one, has chosen to follow the custom, with all candidates attending the WHCA dinner at least once, starting with Calvin Coolidge in 1924. However, Donald Trump broke precedent for the first time when he came to power in 2017. The Republican President has yet to grace the event with his presence, having passed on every opportunity so far. Notably, Trump did state in a Truth Social post in March that he will make it the "greatest, hottest, and most spectacular dinner, of any kind, ever!" Nevertheless, his actual attendance remains unconfirmed. Originally reported by Apoorv Rastogi on Mandatory. Evolve Media is a publisher of leading enthusiast destinations. Upcoming Releases

Grindr adds safety features for LGBTQ+ Winter olymptics athletes.

Grindr adds safety features for LGBTQ+ Winter olymptics athletes. Grindr has announced a set of temporary, location-specific safety and privacy enhancements tailored for LGBTQ+ athletes, officials, and attendees at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics (February 6-22, 2026). The changes address heightened risks for users who may not be out or who come from countries where same-sex relationships are criminalized or stigmatized. Within the boundaries of the Olympic Villages, Grindr has disabled its Explore and Roam features, preventing anyone outside the designated areas from viewing profiles or sending messages to users inside. The app has also turned off approximate distance displays - normally showing exact proximity down to feet - though users can manually re-enable this setting if desired. These restrictions aim to limit unwanted external contact and reduce the risk of surveillance or harassment. Additional protections include: * Unlimited disappearing messages and unsend capabilities extended to both free and premium users in the Village. * Removal of all third-party advertisements, replaced exclusively with Grindr for Equality messaging focused on safety and community support. * Weekly in-app notifications throughout the Games, delivering risk-specific reminders, multilingual safety guides, and links to International Olympic Committee (IOC) in-person and digital resources. Grindr emphasized that these measures are temporary and geographically limited to the Olympic environment. "To the trailblazing athletes heading to Italy: we're proud to support you and we can't wait to see you shine," the company stated in its release. The Olympic Village has infamously been a prime spot for hookups betwene athletes - former swimmer Ryan Lochte once estimated 70-75% of athletes engage sexually during the Games, while British footballer Micah Richards recalled a "massive room full of condoms" at London 2012. The app has previously implemented similar protections during major global events and in regions with restrictive laws, including previous safety boosts for past Olympics. The location-specific protections Grindr adds are specifically tailored to the athletes, making it a lot harder for non-athletes

Grindr CPO: 70% of code checked in via AI as software engineering 'changes in a good way

Grindr's chief product officer AJ Balance revealed that 70% of the company's code is now being checked in via AI, marking what he calls "a really big milestone". The dating app is equipping engineers with tools including Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Codex, whilst designers use Midjourney and Sora. Balance said software engineering is "changing in a good way", with developers spending more time reviewing code rather than writing it. The company is hiring across engineering, product management and design teams, prioritising candidates excited to use AI tools. Grindr is testing its premium Edge subscription at prices ranging from $80 weekly to hundreds of dollars. Balance defended the pricing as reflecting premium value, noting over 90% of users remain on the free tier. The company is also addressing user feedback about ad density.

Bumble Unveils AI Assistant Bee and Chapter-Based Profiles

Bumble unveils AI assistant Bee and chapter-based profiles. Bumble has announced significant updates during its Q4 2025 earnings call on March 11th, introducing an AI-powered personal dating assistant named Bee and a redesigned "chapter-based" profile format as part of its upcoming Bumble 2.0 platform. The changes, expected to roll out in spring 2026, aim to move beyond superficial swiping toward deeper, story-driven connections that better reflect users' personalities and values. CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd emphasized the limitations of traditional profiles, where users are often reduced to photos, age, job title, and a few quick facts - leading to quick dismissals and "dead-end chat zones." The new chapter-based profiles will allow members to share short, narrative-style sections highlighting life experiences, defining moments, interests, or personal growth. This format encourages users to present themselves as multifaceted individuals rather than static data points, with the goal of sparking genuine curiosity and meaningful conversations. "Ultimately, dating only works when you really understand the story of someone," Wolfe Herd stated during the call. "This is where chemistry and connection really happen... Everyone has a story to tell, and this is where people become interesting." Complementing the profile overhaul is Bee, an AI dating assistant designed to learn users' values, relationship goals, communication style, lifestyle, and dating intentions through typed or voice interactions. Bee will analyze this input to identify mutual compatibility and suggest matches, acting as a personalized matchmaker rather than relying solely on algorithmic swipes. Bumble plans to begin beta testing Bee with a select group of users soon. Wolfe Herd also revealed that Bumble may experiment with eliminating the swipe mechanism in certain markets to gauge user response, reflecting growing industry recognition of swipe fatigue - particularly among Gen Z users seeking more intentional dating experiences. These enhancements build on Bumble's existing AI tools for profile optimization and match suggestions, positioning the app to compete with rivals like Hinge (Convo Starters) and Grindr (wingman chatbot), which have integrated AI for conversation starters and planning. By prioritizing storytelling and compatibility insights, Bumble aims to reduce burnout, improve match quality, and foster longer-lasting connections.
