A valid State of Michigan operator's license is required.
A 1-inch unlimited certified welder qualification is required.

Three years of commercial iron worker experience is required.
Responsibilities
Raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks; erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings as needed.
Coordinate, schedule, train, and assign work to iron worker apprentices.
Direct and design the layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work.
Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of required materials.
Analyze defects and repair steel, aluminum, and metal equipment, including stairs, doors, jail doors, ramps, and ladders.
Assemble boiler components using hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment.
Install and maintain steel roll-up, overhead, and garage doors.
Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and supervisor instructions; align structural steel members for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding.
Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope.
Verify the vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
Erect metal or precast concrete structures or components, such as buildings, bridges, dams, towers, storage tanks, fences, or highway guard rails.
Force structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.
Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
Dismantle structures or equipment.
Perform additional duties as needed.
The Iron Worker is responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks; may erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.
Educational/Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
