  • Associate degree in Substance Abuse Counseling or Chemical Dependency Counselor.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
  • At least three years of non-teaching work experience as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening, weekend, or summer assignments as appropriate.
  • Ability to complete written clinical performance evaluation forms for students in a timely manner.
  • Ability to participate in professional development, recruiting, and promotional activities.
  • Ability to follow established Texas State Technical College policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver approved curriculum, content, and assessments in an applied learning environment.
  • Facilitate activities and discussions that engage different learning styles, providing targeted guidance and mentorship to students.
  • Interpret and administer assessments and provide constructive feedback to support student growth and learning outcomes.
  • Integrate technology to enrich educational experiences.
  • Act as an ambassador for the program and Texas State Technical College.
  • Prepare and deliver instruction, develop course syllabi and instructional plans, and organize daily classes using varied teaching techniques.
  • Maintain assigned schedules, accurate student records, and a safe instructional environment.
  • Advise students and collaborate with the Office of Student Success on tutoring and retention programs.
  • Participate in tours, recruitment events, and department or program recruitment planning.
  • Conduct chemical dependency assessments to clarify treatment plans and goals.
  • Provide individual and group treatment for substance abuse and tobacco cessation.
  • Implement objective measurement tools to track treatment outcomes and maintain required documentation.
  • Collaborate with case managers and treatment teams to provide comprehensive care.
  • Conduct intake assessments, individual counseling for adults and adolescents, group therapy, and case coordination services.
  • Develop substance use disorder programming and treatment modalities.
  • Develop discharge plans and summaries with students according to HHSC and CARF standards and refer clients to community resources when clinically indicated.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Addictions Counseling, or Mental Health, with licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
  • Proficiency using electronic health records.
