  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience
  • A good track record of relevant experience

  • Experience in commercial real estate and credit risk underwriting strongly preferred

  • This role is a Certified Role subject to the Certification Regime; employees must be assessed as fit and proper and undergo background checks; annual declaration of Fitness and Propriety may be required
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with senior underwriters and loan originators in the initial assessment and structuring of credit opportunities
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of commercial real estate assets (e.g., office, industrial, retail, hospitality, multifamily) and associated sponsors/borrowers, including historical performance, pro forma cashflow projections and sensitivity analysis, tenancy schedules, operating costs, balance sheet analysis
  • Conduct due diligence leveraging research and due diligence report providers
  • Prepare well-reasoned and succinct credit approval memorandums, identifying key risks and mitigants; make credit decision recommendations including risk ratings and regulatory classifications
  • Assist with the negotiation of legal documentation for new, refinancing, or restructuring transactions, negotiating credit facilities with the assistance of external legal counsel
  • Interact with clients, their representatives and advisors, as required throughout the initial underwriting, deal execution and portfolio management of loans
  • Manage the periodic information, covenant monitoring, annual reviews, waivers & extensions for each credit relationship, managing appropriate hand-offs to the portfolio management support team
  • Proactively identify early warning signs of credit deterioration and elevate concerns to senior portfolio managers, proposing corrective actions
  • Ensures all transactions are in compliance with regulatory and Citi guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments within relevant markets

Citi acquires $163M Indigo shares after founder Rahul Bhatia divests 2% stake for $403M

Citigroup has acquired shares in InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo Airlines, for Rs 1,362 crore through open market transactions. The purchase follows founder Rahul Bhatia's sale of a 2% stake in the airline for approximately Rs 3,367 crore. JSA (J. Sagar Associates) advised InterGlobe Enterprises Private Limited, with partners Madhurima Mukherjee Saha and Shivali Singh leading the team alongside associate Rishika Kharbanda. IndusLaw represented Citigroup Global Markets India, with partners Vishal Yaduvanshi and Priyadarshini Rao, and associate Abishek Sankar handling the transaction. Allen & Overy Shearman also provided counsel to Citigroup. The transaction represents a notable shift in IndiGo's shareholding structure and highlights continued financial sector interest in India's aviation market.

ScotPac closes $300M ABS transaction, raises nearly $1B in two and a half years

ScotPac has completed a $300 million asset-backed securitisation transaction, its third ABS issuance and largest to date. The deal was structured to meet UK and European Securitisation Regulation requirements, broadening the lender's access to international capital markets. Citi served as arranger, with Citi and NAB as joint lead managers. The transaction brings ScotPac's total ABS funding to nearly $1 billion over the past two and a half years. CEO Jon Sutton said it reinforces the company's commitment to supporting SMEs with flexible funding solutions during volatile economic times. The deal attracted strong demand from existing investors and new UK and European-based participants. ScotPac has been diversifying its funding platform, having secured a warehouse facility with UBS in March alongside launching a new asset-based finance solution.

Banks report strong profits but warn of rising energy prices hitting consumers

America's largest banks reported strong first-quarter profits driven by robust investment banking activity and a resilient economy, though executives warned about mounting risks from rising energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty. JPMorgan Chase posted a profit of $16.49 billion, up 13% year-on-year, whilst Wells Fargo earned $5.25 billion and Citigroup reported $5.79 billion. Investment banking fees surged, with JPMorgan seeing a 30% jump and Citigroup a 12% increase in advisory fees, fuelled by market volatility and corporate dealmaking. However, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon cautioned about "an increasingly complex set of risks", including wars, energy prices and trade tensions. Wells Fargo noted customers allocating more spending to petrol whilst cutting discretionary purchases, signalling potential downstream economic impacts from elevated oil prices.
