Requirements
  • Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine.
  • A medical degree is required, with at least two years of direct or internship experience.
  • Current and unrestricted Michigan medical license as an MD or DO.
  • Current DEA licensure and a DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and proper telephone etiquette.
  • Must perform in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Must be able to sustain alertness and concentration during interactive, repetitive, or detailed work, including using a computer or CRT for 40 to 70 percent of the time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk considerably, regularly lift objects weighing 20 pounds or less, and assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients.
  • Must be able to assume mildly strenuous or fatiguing positions and perform some fatiguing physical motions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide medical care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients to meet their medical needs.
  • Educate patients and families on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources.
  • Determine referrals based on examination findings and patient needs.
  • Determine the urgency of follow-up and referral or consultation appointments.
  • Exercise final medical judgment on health care issues.
  • Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
  • Order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
  • Document all services in the patient medical record.
  • Regularly review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
  • Consult with the Medical Director and other staff professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education.
  • Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by hospital or clinic requirements.
  • Oversee assigned mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff.
  • Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Provide customer service consistent with the organization's mission, values, and customer service standards.
  • Cover both hospitals as required on a rotating schedule that includes days, weekends, and nights.
  • Participate in committees and quality work as applicable.
  • Work a variable shift; weekend work is required.
