Requirements
  • Three years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credentials.
  • Required Basic Life Support certification or American Heart Association instructor certification.
  • Required Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist state licensure from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
  • Required certification as either an ARRT-N Radiologic Technologist in Nuclear Medicine or a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the NMTCB.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential job functions affecting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate hospital and radiology information systems and office software.
  • Ability to work independently, handle challenging diagnostic procedures and patient-care situations, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate strong clinical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision, organize workflow, and participate in problem-solving.
  • Ability to work on call during emergencies.
  • May require travel within and outside the Houston metropolitan area.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine to complex nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Assess patient needs and adjust positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors to optimize patient care, image quality, and patient experience.
  • Provide direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including sterile technique.
  • Explain procedures and provide instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level.
  • Follow radiation safety, infection control, sterile technique, aseptic technique, and hospital safety standards, including ALARA principles.
  • Identify corrective actions and process improvements, report near misses and errors, and address patient reactions or potential outcomes.
  • Ensure imaging equipment undergoes required quality control and is safe to use; report malfunctions and perform or arrange preventive maintenance.
  • Implement and educate others on department safety initiatives and standards of practice.
  • Document patient procedures accurately and completely and enter charges when services are delivered.
  • Manage time and prioritize daily tasks while using resources efficiently.
  • Participate in special projects, department initiatives, and shared governance activities.
  • Complete and update the individual development plan on an ongoing basis.
  • Guide and mentor Nuclear Medicine Technologist I employees and students and foster a teaching environment.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team and communicate pertinent patient-care information.
  • Facilitate clear, professional communication during patient and customer encounters.
