Requirements
  • Must have a Producer’s License.
  • Must have 3 or more years of insurance experience.
  • Prior exposure to insurance underwriting activities is required.
  • Basic familiarity with computers is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Must demonstrate negotiation skills.
  • Technical knowledge of insurance coverage forms and their application to exposures is required.
  • Knowledge of departmental regulations and policies is required.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within provided instructions, prescribed routines, and accepted underwriting practices is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills when working with staff and company underwriters are required.
  • Experience with standard underwriting practices and procedures is required.
  • Associated classes or courses and/or an industry license or designation are required.
Responsibilities
  • Review applications for insurance coverage, loss-control consultant reports, and other information to determine whether applications are acceptable for available programs.
  • Evaluate the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
  • Evaluate loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
  • Rate policies or check previously rated policies for proper rating.
  • Use automated systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
  • Prepare quotations for agents and answer questions from agents, policyholders, or prospects.
  • Assist agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company.
  • Review requests for cancellation, endorsements, and related actions.
  • Review policies for renewal consideration.
  • Request additional documentation needed to process an application, endorsement, or cancellation.
  • Conduct marketing visits to agents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
