Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Six months of experience is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Skill in using computers is required.
  • Skill in oral and written communication is required.
  • Skill in data analysis to gather and update statistics, logs, records, and reports is required.
  • Skill in customer service techniques is required.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of patient and workforce safety as it relates to job duties is required.
  • Competency in meeting age-specific patient needs, when applicable, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Interview patients to obtain necessary information.
  • Prepare admission and registration forms.
  • Perform clerical and computer operational tasks related to admitting inpatients and outpatients.
  • Perform admitting functions using RTM, Meditech, and Bedtracking.
  • Communicate and inform the registered nurse, clinical unit coordinator, and/or administrative coordinator.
  • Answer incoming calls within three rings and make outgoing calls as requested.
  • Answer call bells and communicate with the technician and/or registered nurse.
  • Ensure patients get to testing on time.
  • Keep downtime-charting paperwork fully stocked and perform other assigned clerical duties, including stocking paper in copiers and fax machines.
  • Maintain accurate call logs and keep admission logs, emergency-department physician lists, and on-call physician lists up to date.
  • Update broken-equipment and equipment-repair logs.
  • Arrange ambulance transportation for patient transfers.
  • Copy transfer paperwork for transfers to another facility, nursing home, or higher level of care.
  • Order dietary trays as requested.
  • Change beds and linens and bring patients back as requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • Six months of experience in an emergency department or hospital setting is preferred.
