About the company

PepsiCo makes snack foods and soft drinks that supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants sell around the world. It owns some of the most familiar grocery brands, including Lay's and Doritos chips from its Frito-Lay division and Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Gatorade on the drinks side, along with Quaker oats and cereals. The company runs its own plants and distribution network and earns most of its money selling finished products to retailers and foodservice customers, while partner bottlers produce some of its drinks under license. PepsiCo was formed in 1965 through the merger of Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay and is headquartered in Purchase, New York.

What believers are saying

  • Overseas snacks are surging: global snack volumes grew 4% in the quarter reported October 2026, the fastest since 2021.
  • International teams have momentum: Latin America foods sales rose 14% and Asia Pacific 10% in July to September 2026.
  • Shareholders get steady raises: PepsiCo increased its dividend for a 54th straight year, effective June 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Home demand stalled: Frito-Lay volumes were flat and North American drink volumes fell 2% from July to September 2026.
  • Profit growth is shrinking: in October 2026 PepsiCo cut its 2026 core EPS growth forecast to 2.5% to 3.5%.
  • Expect cost cutting near your job: PepsiCo closed three US plants in 2025 under pressure from activist investor Elliott.

What makes PepsiCo unique

  • PepsiCo stocks many store shelves itself: Frito-Lay chips largely travel on company trucks through direct-store delivery.
  • Abroad, drinks often run on a franchise model: PepsiCo's International Beverages Franchise unit supplies concentrate to partner bottlers.
  • Chips fund the soda fight: PepsiCo owns Frito-Lay snacks, while main rival Coca-Cola sells almost only drinks.

Verizon over PepsiCo: why a 6.2% yield with cash to spare wins for 20 years

Verizon beats PepsiCo as the dividend stock to hold for 20 years, according to an analysis by TIKR, because its payout has more cash behind it. Verizon yields 6.2% and paid 54% of its free cash flow as dividends in the twelve months to June 30, 2026. It expects free cash flow to grow 9% to 10% this year. Its main risk is debt, at 3.35x EBITDA. PepsiCo yields 4.7% and raised its dividend 6.9% a year from fiscal 2020 to fiscal 2025. Those dividends took roughly all of its free cash flow in fiscal 2024 and 2025. On October 8, it cut its fiscal 2026 core EPS growth outlook to 2.5% to 3.5%. At their five-year growth rates, $10,000 in PepsiCo would pay about $19,123 over 20 years, against about $14,974 for Verizon.

KFC drops PepsiCo for Coca-Cola in US, a $500M annual sales blow

KFC has switched its US beverage business from PepsiCo to Coca-Cola, the fried-chicken chain announced on October 16. The change begins in January, and all 3,600 US KFC locations should serve Coca-Cola by spring 2027. Bank of America estimates the account at about $500 million in annual sales. Jefferies analysts warn that losing such a longstanding client could encourage rivals to target other PepsiCo relationships. The switch covers only KFC's US business. PepsiCo keeps the international KFC deal and its Taco Bell partnership. PepsiCo shares were on track to close higher on the day, though they remain about 22% below their early February high. Its North America beverage volume fell 2% in the latest quarter, excluding acquisitions and divestitures.

PepsiCo vs Target: why a 4.7% yield beats 3.0% for a 10-year dividend hold

PepsiCo cut its 2026 core earnings-per-share growth outlook on October 8 to 2.5% to 3.5%, from a range with a low end of 5% to 7%. Its stock yields 4.7%, against 3.0% for Target. Target's dividend used 46% of free cash flow over the twelve months to August 1, 2026. PepsiCo's used 75%, and 100% in both fiscal 2024 and fiscal 2025. Target's latest raise was 1.8%, and management aims for a 40% payout ratio over time. Its dividend grew 11.0% a year from January 2021 to January 2026. The author picks PepsiCo for a 10-year hold. A $10,000 stake would pay about $6,472 over the decade, against about $5,005 for Target, assuming past growth rates hold.

PepsiCo and Feed the Children's school hunger programme passes 2 million meals

PepsiCo, the PepsiCo Foundation and Feed the Children announced on October 16, 2026 that the Food Essentials Hub program has served more than 2 million meals. The school-based hubs connect students and families with food, household essentials and educational resources. The program launched in 2020, when food insecurity among US households with children rose to 14.8%, from 13.6% in 2019. In the 2025-26 school year, it reached more than 154,900 students and 58,600 households across 834 schools in 11 states. It distributed more than $6.7 million in food, essentials, books and school supplies. Among caregivers, 71% reported less household stress. Of participating school districts, 87% reported improvements in student confidence and attendance. The milestone builds on more than three decades of collaboration between PepsiCo and Feed the Children.

PepsiCo just lost KFC to Coca-Cola. Here's how much it could sting financially.

PepsiCo just lost KFC to Coca-Cola. Here's how much it could sting financially. This has shaped up to be a year of big losses for beverage and snack giant PepsiCo (PEP). A double-digit percentage drop in the stock so far this year. Lost sales in the core soda business to rival Coca-Cola (KO). Lost profits because of execution missteps and inflation (see the recent full-year earnings guidance cut). And the losses look to keep piling up, with the latest one being a really tough one to swallow for longtime PepsiCo and Yum! Brands (YUM) followers - and probably a legion of former execs, such as former legendary PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and her equally legendary former counterpart at Yum! Brands, David Novak. The Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday that Yum! Brands-owned KFC struck a deal with Coca-Cola to be its beverage provider for thousands of US restaurants. The deal will reportedly begin in January. PepsiCo will reportedly still supply KFC internationally. Note that in April, Coca-Cola won the Marriott (MAR) business from PepsiCo. But the fast food loss stings more. Yum! Brands spun off from PepsiCo in 1997 under the original name of Tricon Global Restaurants. It changed its name to Yum! Brands in 2002. The spin-off included PepsiCo's fast food restaurant division: KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. The business relationship between the two companies has long been seen as a sacred bond, apparently until now. "Overall, the move underscores Coca-Cola's strong brand equity as well as a relative brand equity gap vs. PepsiCo," Evercore ISI analyst Robert Ottenstein said. "We believe that this announcement, in some ways, is more notable as QSRs, more so than hotel chains, use beverages as a key driver of traffic." Ottenstein's analysis shows the lost revenue to PepsiCo could be about $50 million, "which suggests that the retail revenue is closer to ~$350-400 million." PepsiCo, Inc.
