About the job
- A bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
- NATA certification for entry-level graduates.
- New York State Athletic Trainer Certification license and NATABOC certification.
- Knowledge of Physical Therapy practices.
- Current licensure must be maintained.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Membership in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
- Assist the physician in providing patient care by determining and communicating current and previous medical conditions, performing triage, taking patient histories, conducting initial evaluations, providing exercise-prescription instruction and patient education, and maintaining patient flow.
- Fit patients with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician, and educate patients on proper equipment use.
- Prepare patients and materials for physician-performed injections, including cleaning and disinfecting the injection area.
- Remove sutures or staples and provide dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
- Counsel patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and outcomes.
- Perform surgical and position-appropriate administrative or clerical responsibilities as needed.
- Review pre-operative instructions and explain the surgical process to patients.
- Formulate, coordinate, and update patient care plans from pre-operative through post-operative care.
- Collect pre-operative clearance data for physicians.
- Assist with patient positioning, retraction, suction, and wound closure at the physician's discretion.
- Perform sterile preparation and draping in the operating room.
- Review post-operative discharge instructions with patients, including wound care and pain management.
- Set up examination rooms at the start of each day, clean rooms between patient visits, and clean them at the end of the day.
- Perform administrative aspects of patient care, including scheduling, attendance records, charges, and insurance requirements.
- Document care according to department policy and maintain required durable medical equipment supplies.
- A master's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience working in an orthopedic practice.
