Traffic data pioneer Inrix to be acquired by Allstate's Arity after more than two decades. by Lisa Stiffler on Oct 16, 2026 at 12:58 pm Inrix, the Bellevue, Wash.-based traffic data company that spun out of Microsoft in 2004 and became one of the Seattle region's longest-running independent tech companies, has agreed to sell substantially all of its assets to Arity, the mobility data subsidiary of insurance giant Allstate. The deal, announced Friday, would end Inrix's 22-year run as a standalone company. Inrix has raised more than $288 million and flirted with an IPO multiple times over its lifetime. Terms were not disclosed. The companies expect the acquisition to close later this year. Founded in 2016, Chicago-based Arity analyzes driving behavior for insurers, marketers and public-sector customers. It says it has amassed more than 3 trillion miles of driving data. The acquisition would pair that information with Inrix's analytics on traffic, road conditions and transportation networks. "By combining Arity's predictive insights on driving behavior and risk with Inrix's transportation intelligence and mobility analytics, we will be uniquely positioned to deliver more robust intelligence and insights into how people, vehicles, goods, and roads interact," Gary Hallgren, president of Arity, said in a statement. While the companies are touting the benefits of combining their data and analytics, Arity's data practices have faced legal scrutiny. In January 2025, Texas sued Allstate and Arity, alleging they collected and sold consumers' driving and location data without adequate consent. Responding to a separate consumer privacy lawsuit in March, Allstate told Reuters that users receive clear notice and explicitly opt in to sharing their driving data. The proposed acquisition charts an alternate course to Inrix's earlier plans for going public. In 2012, Inrix hired Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase with an eye toward a 2013 IPO that was expected to raise up to $100 million. The company looked to go public again in 2022 but backed out amid economic uncertainty stemming from Russia's invasion of Ukraine and other factors. "We were about two weeks away from filing our documents with the SEC," Inrix CEO Bryan Mistele said in an August 2022 GeekWire story. "We're on standby right now, waiting to see when the markets and economy improve, in which case we'll take another run at it." Inrix serves corporate, automotive, technology and public-sector customers including Amazon, IBM, General Motors, Windermere Real Estate and state departments of transportation. The company got its start selling traffic and transportation-related data. In recent years, it moved beyond supplying raw traffic data into subscription software that helps customers interpret it, including tools for traffic-signal timing, road safety and retail site selection. Recent public releases include its first Parking Scorecard, which ranks the availability and cost of parking in major cities in the U.S. and Europe. Inrix has about 277 employees, based on LinkedIn data. The companies did not say whether all of them would remain or whether Inrix would keep its Bellevue headquarters. The story will be updated with additional information as it becomes available.

Meta Platforms launched its Muse personal AI agent on 8 September, triggering concerns across financial sectors. The app was downloaded nearly one million times in six days, becoming the top free app in the US on Apple's App Store. Insurers face particular scrutiny as Muse can automatically shop for better insurance rates. Allstate shares fell over 6% in five days following the launch. However, the company reported strong second-quarter results, with revenue of $18.6 billion, up 12% year-over-year, and net income of $3.2 billion. Online insurance marketplace Insurify blocked Muse from its platforms, citing concerns about decontextualised quotes missing coverage details. Amazon has similarly restricted Muse from completing purchases. Allstate is developing its own AI system called ALLIE whilst maintaining $9.5 billion in deployable capital.
France Home and auto insurance premiums rise in 2027. Thu, September 24, 2026 at 8:42 PM GMT-7 · FX Markets · Compiled by Adalytica Engine v1.12 Home and auto insurance premiums in France are set to climb again next year, rising well above inflation as insurers pass on the cost of more frequent and more expensive claims tied to storms, fires, hail and repair inflation. Industry specialists Facts & Figures and Addactis expect homeowners' cover to increase by about 5% to 7% in 2027, while auto insurance is seen rising 3% to 4.5%. In cash terms, the increase works out to roughly 20 euros before tax a year per contract, according to the consultants. Sentiment Indicatorsi Proprietary · adalytica.com · September 25, 2026 This is a snapshot - live sentiment, awareness and momentum for 130+ markets update continuously in the dashboard. Open AlphaPulse The projected hikes come after several years of higher pricing and compare with French inflation running at 2.4% in mid-September. For households, the rise adds another pressure point on disposable income at a time when energy, food and borrowing costs remain elevated. For insurers, the pricing move is less about boosting margins than catching up with loss trends. France Assureurs said rising costs reflect "the ascent and evolution of risks" facing the sector, with claims becoming more frequent and more severe as materials, repairs and services get more expensive. Climate change is deepening the problem. More violent storms and other natural disasters are producing larger losses for homes and vehicles, forcing insurers to reprice risk more aggressively and, in some cases, rebuild underwriting margins after several weak years. That backdrop matters for listed insurers too. Axa has already reported record net profit and is targeting 10 billion euros in earnings, while U.S. peers such as Allstate and Travelers have also been pushing through higher premiums and managing catastrophe exposure. The stock reaction has been mixed, but the broader industry trend remains clear: property and casualty pricing is still adjusting upward as claims costs outpace inflation. Investors will be watching whether the rate increases are enough to offset weather losses and claims inflation without damaging demand or retention. The next catalyst is likely to come from 2027 renewal pricing and any further spike in catastrophe activity. | Entity | Gains | Losses | | Insurers | | Higher premium revenue | | Policyholder pushback | | Households | | Less underinsurance risk | | Higher living costs | | Axa, Allstate, Travelers | | Better pricing power | | Weather-related claims | | Regulators/consumers | | More scrutiny of pricing | | Less affordable coverage |
Allstate faces proposed class action over short pays on rental reimbursements. Allstate is facing a proposed class action over rental car reimbursement. The plaintiffs allege Allstate arranged rentals through Enterprise Rent-A-Car but did not reimburse the full amount charged. The lawsuit was filed Aug. 21 in U.S. District Court in Chicago by Jose Arce of New York and Daniel Jackson of Alabama. Neither man was insured by Allstate. According to the complaint, both were involved in crashes with Allstate-insured drivers who were found at fault. Rental Cars Arranged Through Enterprise The plaintiffs say Allstate told them it would cover rental car expenses while their vehicles were being repaired and directed them to Enterprise. Arce rented a Mazda CX-5 for eight days after his Tesla Model 3 was damaged in September 2025. Enterprise charged $352.46. According to the complaint, Allstate reimbursed $267.24, leaving $85.22 unpaid. Jackson describes a similar experience after an April 2026 crash involving his Toyota Prius. He received a Nissan Altima through the Enterprise reservation and kept it for 24 days while his car was being repaired. Enterprise charged $824.73. Allstate reimbursed $732.35, according to the complaint, leaving Jackson responsible for the remaining $92.38. The Dispute Over What Allstate Would Pay The dispute centers on whether Allstate can arrange a rental through its preferred vendor and then reimburse the driver for less than the amount charged under that reservation. The plaintiffs say they accepted the vehicles Enterprise provided without requesting upgrades. Allstate later limited reimbursement to lower daily rates, according to the complaint. In a June 1 letter, Allstate told Jackson it had reimbursed him at $28.31 per day. "After reviewing the cost of the vehicle you rented, we've determined that it exceeds the reasonable amount we would typically pay for the loss of use of the damaged vehicle," Allstate wrote in the letter. Arce and Jackson seek to represent a nationwide class of third-party claimants who rented through Allstate's preferred vendor but were not reimbursed for the full amount charged. The complaint also proposes New York and Alabama subclasses. The lawsuit alleges breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing and promissory estoppel, along with violations of consumer-protection laws in New York and Alabama. Jackson challenged Allstate's position after receiving his reimbursement. "It was never an understanding of mine that your company might establish a car reservation on my behalf at any rate other than what we agreed to," Jackson wrote. "That really should have been disclosed, or you should have had me make the direct reservation."
