Requirements
  • A specialized diploma from an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologists program, or a high school diploma/GED with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification.
  • Knowledge of radiography tools, techniques, and applications, with the ability to use imaging technology on patients for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
  • Knowledge of preparing patients for diagnostic or radiological imaging and monitoring patient reactions during and after procedures, including responding to emergent situations with appropriate measures.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients and equipment, stand and walk frequently to continuously, and perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures and operate scanners to produce detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Prepare pertinent information for physician and care team review.
  • Deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Process and evaluate the technical quality of images, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Maintain critical patient and equipment positioning during contrast-media flow to ensure patient safety and successful examination results.
  • Instruct patients on body positioning during magnetic resonance imaging examinations and explain the procedure before and after scanning while answering patient questions.
  • Determine equipment requirements based on the physician’s tentative diagnoses and obtain scout films for the physician’s preliminary viewing.
  • Maintain magnetic resonance imaging equipment by performing scheduled cleaning and testing, documenting results, and notifying supervision of malfunctions.
  • Implement and conduct proper magnetic resonance imaging safety procedures during the imaging process.
  • Perform related technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager, including quality assurance and quality control activities.
