About the company

United Parcel Service picks up packages from businesses and households and delivers them by truck and plane to addresses around the world. Beyond small parcels, it moves heavy freight, clears imported goods through customs, and runs warehouses and distribution for other companies. Each package is scanned as it passes through local centers and regional sorting hubs, which lets senders and recipients track it from pickup to doorstep. Customers pay shipping rates set by package weight, size, distance, and speed, while large shippers negotiate their own contract rates. UPS was founded in 1907 in Seattle as a messenger service and is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

What believers are saying

  • The Amazon cutback is finished: UPS completed it and raised 2026 revenue guidance to $91.2 billion in July 2026.
  • Medical shipping is expanding: UPS closed its $1.6 billion purchase of Canadian cold-chain carrier Andlauer in November 2025.
  • Driving jobs pay well: full-time UPS drivers' average top rate reaches $49 an hour before the contract ends in 2028.

What critics are saying

  • Operations jobs are shrinking: in January 2026, UPS planned up to 30,000 role cuts for the year, mostly through attrition.
  • The network keeps contracting: in January 2026, UPS slated 24 more building closures after shutting 93 in 2025.
  • Union relations are tense: in January 2026, Teamsters chief Sean O'Brien attacked UPS's renewed driver buyout offer.

What makes United Parcel Service unique

  • Union rules shape the job: about 340,000 UPS Teamsters work under North America's largest private-sector labor contract.
  • Its own air hub sets the pace: Louisville's Worldport sorts about 400,000 packages an hour with over 7,000 workers.
  • Healthcare is its chosen growth lane: UPS set a goal of $20 billion in health care logistics revenue by 2026.

Cash-rich stocks: Clean Harbors worth watching, UPS and GE HealthCare best avoided

StockStory has named one cash-generating stock worth a closer look and two it would avoid, arguing that strong cash flow does not always mean strong returns. Clean Harbors (NYSE:CLH) is the pick. Its revenue grew 13.5% a year over five years, and earnings per share rose 21.6% a year, helped by share buybacks. Its free cash flow margin is 8.8%, up 5.9 percentage points over five years. The shares trade at $320.91, or 30.7x forward earnings. StockStory would steer clear of United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) and GE HealthCare (NASDAQ:GEHC). UPS sales were flat over five years while earnings per share fell 8.4% a year. GE HealthCare faces projected sales growth of 4.4% and a 1.7-point drop in adjusted operating margin.

UPS spends $80M on Philippines hub 15 times larger, cutting Asia delivery by up to two days

UPS has opened a new air hub at Clark International Airport in the Philippines, 15 times larger than its predecessor. The $80 million expansion lets the carrier deliver up to two days faster within Asia. The 323,000-square-foot hub handles an average of 46,000 parcels a day, with a peak capacity of 15,000 pieces per hour. It has specialised areas for healthcare, high-tech and manufacturing shipments, including refrigeration and freezer units for temperature-sensitive goods. UPS runs 170 weekly flight segments through Clark, linking Asia Pacific, India, Europe, and the US in as little as one business day. The hub created nearly 600 jobs. UPS began operating at Clark in 2002 and announced the new facility in March 2024.

General Mills beats UPS as a high-yield dividend stock: 7.7% yield, 85% payout vs 99%

General Mills is the better high-yield dividend stock than UPS, according to a comparison of the two. General Mills yields 7.7% and UPS 7.0%, but neither dividend grew much in its latest fiscal year: up 1.7% at General Mills and 0.6% at UPS. The difference is cash cover. UPS's dividend took 99% of free cash flow over the twelve months to June 30, 2026, against 85% at General Mills. UPS expects about $5.5 billion in free cash flow this year against about $5.4 billion of planned dividends. UPS raised its 2026 outlook on July 28 after finishing its Amazon glide-down. General Mills expects adjusted operating profit to fall 8% to 13% in fiscal 2027. General Mills will hold its dividend flat while it cuts debt to its 3x net debt to EBITDA target. Its chief financial officer expects that to take at least a couple of years.

Enterprise Products beats UPS as high-yield dividend stock: 6.3% yield with 1.9x cash cover

Enterprise Products Partners is the better high-yield dividend stock than UPS, according to a TIKR comparison, because its payout has more room to grow. As of October 9, 2026, UPS yields 7.0% and Enterprise yields 6.3%. UPS paid $5.41 billion in dividends from $5.46 billion of free cash flow in the twelve months to June 30, 2026, a 99% payout ratio. Its dividend per share rose just 0.6% in fiscal 2025. Its cost is debt: 3.2x net debt to EBITDA, against 1.6x for UPS. UPS pays more today, $700 a year on $10,000 against $630 for Enterprise. Its third-quarter report will show whether it can reach its expected $5.5 billion of free cash flow.

UPS, Pfizer, Kraft Heinz and Ford dividends at risk as payouts outstrip earnings

Four blue chip companies, UPS, Pfizer, Kraft Heinz, and Ford, may struggle to sustain their dividends, according to an analysis of their earnings, cash flow, and debt. UPS yields 7.02% and pays out about 121% of its GAAP earnings. Pfizer yields 6.10%, with a GAAP payout ratio of about 226%; its 2025 free cash flow of $9.076 billion fell short of $9.771 billion in dividends. Kraft Heinz yields 6.82%, but its trailing GAAP earnings per share are −$2.88 after $7.4 billion in impairments. Ford yields 4.98% after an $8.162 billion loss in 2025, and its debt-to-equity ratio is 4.66. All four companies say their payouts are safe, and each points to adjusted earnings guidance that covers the dividend.
