Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for press operations and ensure press teams maintain efficiency and quality standards based on customer specifications.
  • Train and develop press crews.
  • Coordinate production with the prepress and postpress departments.
  • Maintain compliance and consistently enforce company, safety, and environmental policies and standards.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new department staff.
  • Oversee the department's daily workflow.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handle employee discipline and termination in accordance with company policy.
  • Observe press operations and examine printed material to verify conformance with press-run specifications and customer expectations.
  • Authorize product quality after proofs are checked for ink coverage and density, alignment, and registration.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure production requirements, schedules, quality, and final deliveries are satisfactory.
  • Coordinate staffing to meet quality and production requirements without overstaffing.
  • Maintain and monitor records including daily production and throughput, plate make-over requests, maintenance requests, accident reports, counseling records, press production information sheets, and roll performance records.
  • Monitor press speeds, waste, and labor.
  • Communicate excess downtime to the Scheduling department.
  • Assist operators in coordinating preventive maintenance for presses.
  • Work in both office and production environments and use required personal protective equipment for applicable production tasks.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • One to three or more years of previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Mechanical ability is preferred.

Printing company Mittera closing Jacksonville plant, affecting 100 jobs. The Iowa-based company said the loss of a customer prompted the closure. * By Mark Basch * | 9:21 a.m. May 20, 2026 * | 2 Free Articles Remaining! * Business Mittera Group Inc. filed a notice with the state May 18 saying it is closing its Jacksonville plant at 10301 Busch Drive N., affecting 100 full-time jobs. The printing company said in a letter filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act a decision by the plant's primary customer to move its work to another provider is prompting the closure. The letter said the 100 employees will be terminated between July 17 and the end of 2026. Employees will receive wages and benefits through their last day of employment and retirement and insurance benefits will be provided in accordance with the terms of applicable benefit plans. Des Moines, Iowa-based Mittera provides print, mail and marketing services. The company has plants in 11 states, including Florida facilities in Pompano Beach and Sunrise, according to its website.
