Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (R.N.).
  • Must be registered and licensed to practice in the applicable State.
  • Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience, plus 6 months of specialized experience providing clinical nursing care to dialysis patients, in either a chronic or acute setting.
  • Certified in CPR or successfully complete a course in CPR certification.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure quality patient care and cost-effective clinical operations in accordance with legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage daily decisions to ensure continuity of care and maintain patient and staff safety and oversee safe, effective, quality outcomes.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff; provide ongoing informal feedback and input for annual performance evaluations; participate in staffing and appropriate hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommend disciplinary action to the Facility Administrator and initiate it as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company and facility procedures and policies and regulations set forth by state and federal agencies.
  • Approve or disapprove time or personnel schedule changes in the Facility Administrator's absence, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and procedures for documenting staff work hours.
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of current dialysis practices and techniques by participating in scheduled in-services.
  • Train and orient staff as necessary.
  • Observe and guide direct patient care staff on appropriate techniques and adherence to facility policies and procedures.
  • Promote and assist with compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration programs to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Maintain overall shift operations safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Conduct staff meetings with the Facility Administrator at least monthly or as needed to inform patient care staff about changes in patient care needs or operations and improve care delivery.
  • Meet routinely with the Facility Administrator to discuss personnel and patient care status, issues, and information.
  • Supervise documentation of patient information.
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff Registered Nurses acting in relief charge capacity.
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments appropriately.
  • Assume primary responsibility in an emergency situation.
  • Assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, communicate concerns to the rounding physician, and implement changes in patient care or treatment as directed.
  • Monitor and supervise patient care activity during dialysis and assist as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the direct patient care team on decisions that benefit patient care.
  • Continuously monitor patient condition for problems and potential complications associated with dialysis.
  • Administer medications to patients according to physician orders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and resource for staff members.
  • Supervise and participate in completion of short- and long-term care plans.
  • Admit new patients according to facility procedure.
  • Meet patients' educational needs and educate patients and families about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication.
  • Supervise safe and effective use of equipment involved in direct patient care.
  • Operate dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently when needed.
  • Perform required testing and verification and initial the checklist for startup and shutdown procedures described in the Technical Services Manual.
  • Complete the Nurse's Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility.
  • Assist with special projects or other duties assigned by the Facility Administrator.
  • Assist with interviewing potential direct patient care staff.
  • Promote efficient use of medical supplies.
  • Attend and participate in monthly Quality Assurance meetings.
  • Travel between assigned facilities and locations within the community; travel to regional, Business Unit, and corporate meetings may be required.
