  • At least five years of experience in IT management involving complex networks and related IT infrastructure in a large enterprise environment, including service lifecycle, governance, risk management, and budget stewardship.
  • Experience managing a large team of senior network engineers.
  • Experience managing large, complex technology projects and programs with multiple stakeholders, dependencies, and competing priorities.
  • Experience delivering complex network-related projects, such as LAN/WAN, wireless, data center, or telecommunications projects.
  • Experience developing and managing large capital and operating budgets.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating work across technical and business organizations.
  • Comprehensive experience with project management methodologies and tools, including Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches.
  • Experience with portfolio management, project governance, risk management, and strategic planning.
  • Experience managing communications with diverse stakeholders, including written and verbal communication, cross-organizational influence, documentation, and executive reporting.
Responsibilities
  • Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Wired Networks in alignment with UWIT strategic plans and enterprise architecture, and represent the service to governance bodies.
  • Direct the development and evolution of service offerings, set service-level objectives, and define outcome metrics.
  • Oversee financial performance by directing OPEX and CAPEX budget development and management, working with UWIT Finance on cost recovery rates, and ensuring auditability and compliance.
  • Direct the lifecycle for Network Engineering and Deployment, including architectures, standards, capacity, reliability, continuity, and security controls.
  • Oversee change, incident, and problem practices; participate in the Change Advisory Board as needed; and ensure post-incident reviews and continual improvement.
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of customer-facing and internal service documentation, including service catalogs, knowledge bases, engineering procedures, and drawings.
  • Sponsor and provide leadership for large cross-unit initiatives and projects involving network infrastructure, tools, and process development.
  • Set success criteria and milestones; manage risks, dependencies, and vendor deliverables; and report to executive stakeholders.
  • Lead a large team including senior network and systems engineers and two managers with their own teams.
  • Build a diverse, inclusive, high-performing culture; hire, coach, set goals, conduct annual reviews, and drive career development.
  • Align staffing models, on-call coverage, and succession planning with service risk profiles.
  • Maintain relationships with leadership at UW Medicine IT, PNWGP, Washington State K-20, and peer research and education networks.
  • Coordinate technical strategies and service delivery models across organizational partners.
  • Own vendor portfolio strategy, negotiate contracts, manage vendor performance, provide input into product roadmaps, and optimize value.
  • Work occasional off hours to support planned maintenance windows and critical delivery deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience managing network services in higher education, healthcare, or research environments.
  • Knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Experience coordinating with regional or national research and education networks.
