Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • A Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist license with computed tomography qualification, or registration as a radiography, nuclear medicine, and computed tomography technologist, is required.
  • A certificate from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required, and new hires have 30 days to provide certification through the American Heart Association.
  • One to three years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.
  • Ability to make decisions guided by precedents, policies, and objectives, including decisions affecting a department or functional area.
  • Ability to solve highly varied, complex, and non-recurring problems using staff input, innovative and creative approaches, and Lean diagnostic techniques.
  • Ability to work independently within broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies in varied situations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and position patients for CT examinations of various body parts, including setting up the equipment and patient to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study.
  • Enter instructions into the terminal for scan procedures.
  • Monitor scan performance to ensure accurate and complete data output and make necessary adjustments.
  • Evaluate scan results for quality and completeness and manipulate controls to display images to physicians.
  • Select several image display options using the terminal.
  • Provide research support to radiologists by performing research studies.
  • Perform quality assurance tests on CT equipment.
  • Respond to patients' physical and psychological needs and explain procedures clearly and concisely without causing unnecessary anxiety.
  • Use proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact.
  • Observe patients' conditions and report changes to nurses or physicians.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records related to procedures performed.
  • Maintain CT scanning statistics as required by the Department of Public Health and make appropriate computer entries.
  • Ensure examinations are networked to the appropriate locations, including PACS, AW, or Vitrea workstations, and verify successful transmission.
  • Maintain the daily room checklist, code cart compliance checks, and monthly inventory checks for expired products.
  • Report incidents affecting patient care in the CCC online incident-reporting system.
  • Edit computer entries for correct descriptions, billing charges, contrast usage and reactions, and patient scan start and end times.
