Requirements
  • Knowledge of state and federal occupational therapy regulations, treatment practices, and occupational therapy programs.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Certification as an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapist Registered.
  • Current state occupational therapy licensure.
  • A Basic Life Support certificate.
  • Ability to evaluate patient responses to treatment, instruct patients and families on treatment plans and expected outcomes, integrate physical medicine with medical goals, and interpret medical tests to establish treatment cautions and precautions.
  • Ability to initiate, direct, and revise policies and procedures governing rehabilitation services.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality, including compliance with policies for reporting and releasing protected health information.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Basic statistical knowledge.
  • Ability to respond to unusual or varied situations not covered by existing standards, procedures, or precedents.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, ascend and descend stairs, handle objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and lift 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients' physical and psychological conditions and develop or follow treatment plans.
  • Record clinical documentation according to regulatory and professional guidelines.
  • Implement physician and non-physician practitioner orders accurately and promptly.
  • Treat patients according to treatment plans approved by the attending physician or non-physician practitioner.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of patient treatment.
  • Provide functional training in self-care, home management, community integration, and work integration.
  • Assess patients' home and work environments and determine required adjustments or accommodations.
  • Identify patient needs related to age or developmental stage and address them in the plan of care.
  • Perform preventive equipment maintenance, follow manufacturer instructions, troubleshoot malfunctions, and report problems.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Secure durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment to promote patient independence.
  • Participate in required in-service training and quality improvement programs.
  • Educate staff, patients, and family members to improve health care delivery.
  • Participate as an active member of the hospital and departmental team in special projects and activities.
  • Maintain confidential hospital and patient information and ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Support and enforce infection control policies and procedures.
  • Observe and support hospital policies.
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly.
  • Maintain certifications and continuing education requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
