Speechify provides text-to-speech software across multiple platforms (Chrome extension, web app, iOS, Android) to turn written content into spoken audio for over 20 million users. It helps students, professionals, and people with learning differences like dyslexia and ADHD by letting them listen to text instead of reading. The product works by converting on-demand text into natural-sounding speech via its freemium model (free basic features with paid subscriptions) and through partnerships that embed Speechify’s TTS into other websites (e.g., Medium, The Star Tribune, The Direct). The company differentiates itself through its accessibility focus, especially for learning differences, a broad cross-platform footprint, and strategic partnerships, backed by a team with experience from major tech companies. Its goal is to remove reading barriers and enable faster, more efficient access to information for a wide audience.

Speechify launches Windows app with on-device AI for transcription and dictation

Speechify has launched a native Windows app using locally stored AI models for transcription and dictation across applications. The app can read aloud articles, documents and PDFs using the company's voice library. The Windows app processes voice entirely on-device on Copilot+ PCs and Windows 11 machines with compatible GPUs from Intel and AMD. It runs three on-device models: neural text-to-speech, real-time voice activity detection using the open-source Silero model, and Whisper-powered transcription. Users can switch to cloud-based models during usage. Speechify, which has over 50 million users, is competing with dictation apps like Wispr Flow and Superwhisper. The company recently expanded beyond text-to-speech into meeting transcription and voice assistance, positioning itself as a comprehensive voice application platform.

This piece references some of the organization’s affiliates and beneficiaries. The future of work for people with disabilities — historically the most overlooked and underemployed segment of the population — is more promising than ever before. This horizon brims with possibilities for not only increased inclusion but also leadership and advanced ingenuity. The catalyst is the suite of innovative, accessible, universally designed and assistive digital platforms that can both level playing fields and empower people with disabilities to be leaders in their respective industries
