The Department of Radiology at West Virginia University serves as the academic imaging enterprise for WVU Medicine, the state’s flagship academic health system encompassingtwenty-fivehospitals and a rapidly expanding regional network across West Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region. As part of the WVU School of Medicine, the Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging services while advancing the institution’s missions of clinical care, education, and research. The Department playsa central rolein supporting multidisciplinary care across the health system and serves as a major referral destination for complex imaging and image-guided procedures throughout West Virginia, Western Maryland, Western Pennsylvania, and Southeastern Ohio.The Orlando F. Gabriele Chair of the Department of Radiologyis responsible forthe provision of imaging services in conjunction with a strong commitment to undergraduate, pre-doctoral,graduate,and interdisciplinary health sciences education. This includes ensuring the highest quality of care and service, consistency in the standard of practice,maintainingexcellence across the educational spectrum, and enabling scholarly advances in the field. He/shefacilitatesan interdisciplinary approach to achieve excellence in clinical care, education, and research in an environment in which collaboration is valued and encouraged.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with the Chancellor & Executive Dean, Associate Deans, other Department Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty on curriculum for the medical school.
Teachesmedical students,residents,and allied health professionals.
Supports the Residency and Fellowship Program Directors andcomplies withthe standards of the Office of GraduateMedical Education.
Maintains accreditation of all educational programs.
Promotes the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of academic faculty within the Department.
Assures continuing faculty development activities in education.
Provides annual summative evaluation and oversight of all faculty within the department, particularly with regards tothe promotion and tenure cycle, as well as ongoing formative evaluation and feedback.
Determinesthe qualifications and assesses the competency of all members of the department and coordinates andprovides oversight of all medical staff as it relates to credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging.
Collaborates with clinical services to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Ensures that patient care delivery and clinical standards for the department are consistent with current professionalguidelines, accreditation standards, and the mission, vision, and values of WVU Medicine.
Monitors clinician, referring provider, patient, and employee satisfactionin accordance withorganizational goals andguidelines, whilemaintainingclinical excellence.
Ensures the practice of evidence-based medicine, as well asoptimalpatient care by clinicians.
Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer to develop andmonitorcontinuous performanceimprovement.
Participates in clinical service.
Participates in scholarly activities.
Enables faculty to develop and enhance academic and professional development.
Providesappropriate mentoringfor academic,scholarly,and professional growth.
Encourages and rewards grant funding in education and training, basic,translational,and clinical research.
Seeks interdisciplinary collaboration in research and scholarly activities.
Supervises andmentorsfaculty research focused onpracticechanging contributions and scientific importance witha focus on high impact journals and national/international presentation.
Mentorsfaculty andpromotesdevelopment in voluntary national academic organizations.
Oversees departmental finances with regards tothe clinicalpractice and educational mission.
Creates and executesan appropriate departmentalbudget, with theassistanceof Departmental and Hospital Administrators, and other key personnel.
Provides recommendationsregardingequitablecompensation forfaculty, andstaff working in radiology and updates them regularly.
Makes recommendations for annual capital improvements and monitors future fiscal needs of the department.
Oversees clinical operations, capitalpurchases,and compliance.
Contributes to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical services.
Works with leadership tomonitorphysician productivity, quality, access, and clinician/patient/staff satisfaction.
Serves as spokesperson for the department,advisesleadership, and acts as an agent for implementing the policiesand procedures of the hospital.
Coordinates with Administration, Chairs, and Medical Directors tooptimizeaccess and the delivery of care to patients.
Ensures that clinical care is consistent with current professional standards, as well as with the mission, vision, andvalues of WVU Medicine.
Collaborates with quality and compliance officers in performance improvement projects, turnaround time, sentinelevent reports, key performance indicators and established metrics and dashboards.
Participates in medical staffaffairs.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND OUTREACH :
Seeks collaborative relationships with clinicians and administrators at system hospitals.
Maintains active professional relationships with former graduates practicing in the state and region.
Participates in local and regional leadership forums and societies or delegates these responsibilities.
Remains active in local, state,regionaland national professional societies.
Participates in active and ongoing strategic planning for the department, which is congruent with that of the Schoolof Medicine, the Health Sciences Center, the University, and WVU Medicine.
Assistsin setting personal and departmental goals with measurableoutcomes.
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SYSTEM :
Participates in the Council of Chairs and Executive Council of the School of Medicine.
Serves on committees and councils as assigned by the Dean, CMO, hospital CEO, other ranking officials, or as peer elected.
Promotes andparticipatesin endeavors of philanthropy on behalf of the Department, School ofMedicine,and University.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE :
At least ten (10) years of clinical practice experience and a minimum of three (3)yearsadministrative experiencein an academic medical center preferred.
Familiarity with clinical program administration and graduate medical educationrequired.
An accomplished physician (MD/DO), with current and ongoing certification by the American Board of Radiology.
Must meet requirements for medical licensure in the State ofWest Virginia,active clinical practice.
Current medical school appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
