Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an Accredited College or University
  • Minimum 3 years experience in clinical area

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice
  • Major roles of the Clinical Specialist include those of practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, and Clinical Guideline Manager
  • Utilizes clinical practice expertise to serve as a role model for collaborative practice model
  • Develops clinical guidelines for high-risk/high cost patients through clinical pathway systems
  • Conducts clinical research; assists nursing staff in applying research findings and pathway data analysis results as they relate to patient outcomes
  • Monitors resource utilization to assure appropriate level of utilization
  • Assists with the development and evaluation of policies, procedures, and standards of care; ensures consistency of clinical guideline documents and hospital-wide policies with recognized regulatory and specialty standards
  • Facilitates resolution of individual patient care variances
  • Serves as a patient advocate and as a resource for complex patient care situations
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures; Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager
