Requirements
- Master's Degree in Nursing from an Accredited College or University
- Minimum 3 years experience in clinical area
- Effective analytical and organizational skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to educate others and serve as a positive change agent
Responsibilities
- Serves as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice
- Major roles of the Clinical Specialist include those of practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, and Clinical Guideline Manager
- Utilizes clinical practice expertise to serve as a role model for collaborative practice model
- Develops clinical guidelines for high-risk/high cost patients through clinical pathway systems
- Conducts clinical research; assists nursing staff in applying research findings and pathway data analysis results as they relate to patient outcomes
- Monitors resource utilization to assure appropriate level of utilization
- Assists with the development and evaluation of policies, procedures, and standards of care; ensures consistency of clinical guideline documents and hospital-wide policies with recognized regulatory and specialty standards
- Facilitates resolution of individual patient care variances
- Serves as a patient advocate and as a resource for complex patient care situations
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures; Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager
