Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in accounting from an accredited university and 10 years of progressive accounting responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Significant accounting leadership experience as a Controller or Senior Accounting Officer.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including previous experience managing people, delegating workload, and providing direction and corrections as necessary.
  • Ability to select, motivate, retain, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
  • A valid California Driver's License, proof of current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to perform the stated physical requirements, including desk-based computer tasks, sitting, standing or walking, reaching, grasping, telephone use, sorting or filing, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the activities concerned with safekeeping, control, and accounting for assets and securities.
  • Direct and coordinate the organization's financial affairs according to financial principles and regulations.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards, including all financial reporting obligations.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for financial recordkeeping and reporting, and maintain accounting internal controls and safeguards.
  • Direct the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and consolidated financial close processes.
  • Maintain inter-entity reconciliation and related financial recordkeeping processes to ensure compliance with accounting and control systems.
  • Review financial plans versus actual results to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Lead all audit and tax preparation activities and manage relationships with auditors and outsourced vendors.
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in engaging the Board and Audit and Finance committees on audit, tax, and financial results.
  • Oversee treasury and cash reporting, and track the performance of invested assets in line with policies and guidelines.
  • Administer all aspects of new accounting technology implementation.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team; leverage team strengths and clarify roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement training programs and promote a positive, communicative, and supportive work environment.
  • Directly supervise treasury, the Development Assistant Controller, and the Property Assistant Controller.

  • Experience within the affordable housing or real estate industry.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification.
