  • Medical Doctor (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or non-US equivalent of an M.D. degree with a relevant therapeutic specialty in an academic or hospital environment.
  • At least 2 years of clinical trial experience for the Senior Medical Director level.
  • At least 5 years of clinical trial experience for the Executive Medical Director level.
  • Ability to run a clinical research program of moderate complexity with minimal supervision for the Senior Medical Director level.
  • Ability to run a complex clinical research program independently for the Executive Medical Director level.
  • Ability to interact externally and internally to support a global scientific and business strategy.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements governing clinical trials, and experience developing clinical strategy and designing study protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the direction, planning, execution, and interpretation of clinical trials or research activities for one or more clinical development programs.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to generate, deliver, and interpret clinical data supporting product scientific and business strategy.
  • Manage the design and implementation of clinical development programs in support of a Product Development Plan.
  • Oversee project-related education of investigators, study site personnel, and study staff.
  • Oversee clinical studies, monitor study integrity, and review, interpret, and communicate accumulating safety and efficacy data.
  • Oversee study enrollment and timelines for key deliverables with Clinical Operations.
  • Assess and report serious adverse events according to corporate policy and regulations.
  • Design, analyze, interpret, and report scientific content for protocols, Investigator Brochures, Clinical Study Reports, regulatory submissions and responses, and other program documents.
  • Provide in-house clinical expertise for the molecule and disease, coordinating scientific and medical activities with internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute with Discovery colleagues to the design and implementation of translational strategies as required by program needs.
  • Serve on or chair a Clinical Strategy Team and develop a rigorous, cross-functionally aligned Clinical Development Plan.
  • Supervise matrix team members when serving as Clinical Strategy Team Chair.
  • Serve as a clinical research representative to provide clinical development and medical expertise to asset development teams and leadership boards.
  • Act as a clinical interface and solicit opinion-leader interactions related to the molecule and disease area.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs, Commercial, and other functions to incorporate cross-functional perspectives into Clinical Development Plans and protocols.
  • Maintain professional and technological knowledge through conferences, medical literature, and available training.
  • Understand and comply with regulatory requirements related to clinical studies and global drug development.
  • Serve as a clinical representative in key regulatory discussions.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practices, pharmacovigilance standards, standard operating procedures, and other quality standards in conducting research.

The multi-year partnership will see AbbVie roll out its 'Birdies for Brain Health' campaign, which will use professional golf to generate donations for patient advocacy organisations working across migraine, mental health conditions and Parkinson's disease. The campaign will debut at the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois, close to AbbVie's global headquarters in North Chicago. Turning birdies into brain health support. To mark the launch, AbbVie will make a donation recognising the more than one in three people globally affected by a neurological disorder, with funds shared between six patient organisations. These include the American Migraine Foundation, National Headache Foundation, Mental Health America, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and Parkinson's Foundation. From 2027, the initiative will expand across PGA TOUR Signature Events and the FedExCup Playoffs, with AbbVie making donations for every birdie scored. AbbVie's $61B revenue beats CRISPR's gene-editing promise for 2026 investors

AbbVie reported revenue of $61.2 billion in FY 2025, up 8.6% year-over-year, with net income of $4.2 billion. The pharmaceutical giant generated free cash flow of $17.8 billion despite a debt-to-equity ratio of -21.1x. Growth products Skyrizi and Rinvoq are offsetting competition for older medications. CRISPR Therapeutics saw revenue fall 90% to $3.5 million in FY 2025 and posted a net loss of $581.6 million. The gene-editing company burned $345.9 million in cash but maintains a conservative balance sheet with a 0.2x debt-to-equity ratio and 13.3x current ratio. AbbVie faces patent expiry risks and pricing pressures, whilst CRISPR depends heavily on partner Vertex for commercialisation. CRISPR's Casgevy gene therapy recently gained FDA approval for children aged two and above, expanding its patient population.

Billionaire Englander doubles AbbVie stake to $380M, buys $3B in SpaceX stock

Millennium Management, led by billionaire Israel "Izzy" Englander, recently increased its AbbVie stake by more than double to 1.5 million shares worth around $380 million. The fund also took a new position in SpaceX, purchasing 17.6 million shares valued at nearly $3 billion. AbbVie, a diversified pharmaceutical company, offers products treating chronic conditions and cancers. Its key drugs Skyrizi and Rinvoq generated $9.99 billion and $4.64 billion respectively in the first half of 2026. The company pays a dividend yield of 2.7%, with its annual dividend growing from $2.28 in 2016 to $6.83 currently. SpaceX leads in space launches and satellite communications through Starlink. The company reported 92% year-over-year revenue growth to $7.8 billion in the second quarter.

AbbVie shifts focus from declining Humira to $8B Skyrizi and Rinvoq growth engines

AbbVie has dramatically shifted its focus away from Humira, its once-flagship drug now facing biosimilar competition. On the company's July 2026 earnings call, Humira received just one sentence, noting global sales of $706 million, down 36.1% operationally but in line with expectations. This marks a stark change from previous quarters when management detailed the reasons behind Humira's decline, including biosimilar competition and molecule compression in the US market. AbbVie now emphasises growth drivers instead. Skyrizi generated $5.5 billion in Q2 2026, whilst Rinvoq exceeded $2.5 billion, both growing above 20% operationally. The company also acquired Apogee Therapeutics in September 2026. Despite the reduced attention, Humira still contributes approximately 4% of AbbVie's quarterly revenue of nearly $17 billion, though management no longer publicly projects its ultimate decline trajectory.
