Requirements
  • Experience with the WIC Program, multicultural populations, and the use of interpreters is required.
  • Must maintain current Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian credentials, as applicable, for registered dietitians.
  • The experience should demonstrate managerial and organizational skills and an interest in nutrition services and nutrition education.
  • A nutrition degree from an accredited college or university, an approved hospital dietetic internship or equivalent training and experience, and fulfillment of the American Dietetic Association requirements as a Registered Dietitian are preferred; the educational requirement may be waived for someone with at least three years of direct experience as a WIC supervisor.
  • Must maintain an annual tuberculosis test.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Must complete pre-hire and annual employee health screening.
  • Must receive a background check from the Washington State Patrol.
  • Must own or have access to an insured vehicle for site visits and duties at various Sea Mar locations.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds above four feet without assistance and meet the stated physical requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the WIC Program, including reporting, data gathering, maintenance of program files and records, monthly statistics, and preparation of the Nutritional Education Plan, Breastfeeding Grant, and annual WIC Expenditures Report.
  • Plan and provide nutrition consultations, in-services, and continuing education opportunities for Nutrition Department and Sea Mar staff.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition services provided by the WIC/Nutrition Department, determine the nutrition needs and problems of the WIC target population, and implement policies, standards, and services to meet client needs.
  • Coordinate WIC/Nutrition Department services with the MSS Program.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement, Joint Commission, county, state, and local nutrition meetings and activities.
  • Supervise, direct, schedule, train, and provide consultation for WIC Nutritionists, Nutrition Assistants, and WIC Clerks.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and serve as a liaison between nutrition staff, management, other Sea Mar staff, state nutrition staff, referring departments, and agencies.
  • Prepare periodic and special reports and summarize progress of activities.
  • Conduct community outreach and maintain communication with referral agencies.
  • Provide nutrition assessment and counseling to high-risk clientele and develop nutrition care plans as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor for Sea Mar Dietetic Interns, assist and evaluate interns in counseling and charting skills, and conduct occasional classes for interns.
  • Interview, select, orient, train, assign, and direct WIC staff; appraise performance; conduct disciplinary processes; address complaints; and resolve problems.

  • Bilingual, bicultural Spanish/English ability.
  • Experience with a nutrition degree, approved hospital dietetic internship or equivalent training and experience, and fulfillment of American Dietetic Association requirements as a Registered Dietitian.
