About the company

SpaceX builds and launches reusable rockets and spacecraft for NASA, the military, and companies, and it runs Starlink, a satellite internet service for homes and businesses. In 2020, its Dragon capsule became the first privately built spacecraft to carry astronauts to the International Space Station. Its Falcon 9 rocket lands its first stage so the booster can fly again, which cuts launch costs, while Starlink beams internet from low-orbit satellites to small dishes for a monthly fee. SpaceX also owns xAI, maker of the Grok chatbot and owner of the social network X, and is building Starship, a fully reusable rocket meant to carry people to the Moon and Mars. Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, and it is based in Starbase, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • Starlink demand keeps compounding: subscribers doubled to 12 million in the year to June 2026.
  • Room to grow: SpaceX listed 2,693 open roles in October 2026, over a third of them for Starlink.
  • Rivals rent its AI supercomputers: Claude maker Anthropic agreed in May 2026 to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion a month.

What critics are saying

  • Stock grants swing hard: shares closed between $108 and $211 in the four months after the June 2026 IPO.
  • Expect long weeks: 1,724 of SpaceX's 2,693 job posts in October 2026 mention extended hours and weekend work.
  • AI spending outruns sales: SpaceX put $15.8 billion into AI data centers in the June 2026 quarter, double its revenue.

What makes SpaceX unique

  • SpaceX is the world's busiest launcher by far: its 165 orbital launches in 2025 were nearly double China's total.
  • Starlink carries the profits: it earned $1.7 billion in the June 2026 quarter, while rockets and AI lost $1.8 billion.
  • Elon Musk has the final say: super-voting shares give him about 82% of shareholder votes after the June 2026 IPO.

Tesla unveils SpaceX-thruster Roadster that hovers over cars, nine years after $50,000 deposits

Tesla has revealed its redesigned second-generation Roadster, which uses SpaceX thrusters. Chief executive officer Elon Musk showed the car at an event outside Waco, Texas, where it used fans and thrusters to drive up an inverted ramp, spin, and land softly. It also lifted itself over a Cybercab, Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, Model Y, and Model 3. Tesla showed the car going 0-60 miles per hour in one second. Musk called it "the best of the last of the human-driven cars" and said it is unlikely to move revenue much. Tesla first revealed the car almost nine years ago and took $50,000 deposits. Some buyers paid $250,000 for one of 1,000 "Founders Series" versions. Musk delayed the car in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024.

SpaceX stock jumps 7% on three launches, but $28B capex and a $2T valuation worry investors

SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) launched three rockets in under 13 hours, and its stock rose about 7% afterwards. The writer argues that investors should focus on free cash flow instead of launch cadence. In the second quarter, revenue jumped 92% to $7.8 billion, but the company posted a net loss of $541 million, down from about $1 billion a year earlier. In the first half of 2026, it reported $4.6 billion in adjusted EBITDA, while capital expenditures exceeded $28 billion. SpaceX holds about $98 billion in cash and marketable securities. Shares trade around $157, valuing the company at roughly $2 trillion, which leaves little room for error if free cash flow worsens.

Could $2,000 in SpaceX fund an early retirement? Its $2T valuation limits upside

SpaceX, formally Space Exploration Technologies, listed on NASDAQ in June under the ticker SPCX. The stock opened near $150, reached about $200, fell to $110, and now trades just above $150. A $2,000 stake is unlikely to fund an early retirement quickly. At a $2 trillion valuation, a 10x gain would value SpaceX at $200 trillion, above the estimated $150 trillion global stock market. The writer suggests judging SpaceX by whether it can beat the S&P 500, which averages about 10% a year. Revenue grew 92% in the second quarter, driven by space exploration, artificial intelligence, and satellite internet. The company is not yet profitable, and may not be for some time.

SpaceX shares fall 2% to $153.5 as investors weigh orbital data centre plan against 18x sales valuation

SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) shares fell 2% to $153.5 on Wednesday morning, raising questions about whether its fast-growing businesses can support the company's valuation. Starlink, its satellite-broadband service, is the only profitable division. The AI business built around Grok grew 213% in the second quarter but remains unprofitable. Analysts expect 2027 revenue to reach $115 billion, up 155%. At the current share price, that values SpaceX at roughly 18 times projected sales, a multiple comparable to Nvidia's. The bigger uncertainty is whether SpaceX can turn its orbital data centre plans into a viable business before AI rivals gain ground or Starlink's customer growth cools.

SpaceX caps Ukraine's military Starlink at 100 mph, a trust issue more than a $40M revenue one

SpaceX has capped its military-grade Starlink service in Ukraine, cutting the link on any terminal moving faster than 100 miles an hour (160 km/h), presidential adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov said on Wednesday, October 14. He said the limit arrived overnight with no warning and disrupted several combat missions. SpaceX hasn't commented. The cap covers StarShield, the encrypted, government-grade version of Starlink, which the Pentagon pays for. Bloomberg reported in December 2024 that two US contracts covered 3,000 terminals in Ukraine. The money at stake is small. An earlier 500-terminal deal was worth about $40 million, against $12.98 billion in third-quarter revenue that Wall Street expects. The bigger risk is trust: the move could signal to governments that SpaceX can change terms mid-war.
