Requirements
  • A master's degree in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the Volunteer Emory program, providing the Emory community with service opportunities that promote learning about self and society while meeting needs identified by agency partners.
  • Provide leadership to University-wide working groups and committees on Community Engagement, including extensive collaboration with the Center for Community Partnerships.
  • Initiate and manage intentional, strategic partnerships within and outside of the Emory community.
  • Manage all aspects of a $200,000 budget, including income and programmatic allocations, for community engagement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership for a multi-year development and fundraising campaign for Volunteer Emory.
  • Support the integration of community engagement into programs throughout the Office and Division.
  • Engage faculty in social justice and community engagement initiatives.
  • Supervise a leadership team and student staff of Volunteer Emory, as well as professional staff members.
  • Expand risk management frameworks and practices throughout the Office of Student Leadership & Service related to student organizations and community engagement initiatives.
  • Advise Emory community members in service project organization tasks and processes.
  • Advise service-related student organizations, including contract negotiations when applicable.
  • Conduct annual community engagement assessment projects while supporting the Division of Campus Life in advocating the impact of community engagement on student learning.
  • Conduct strategic and long-range planning for Office of Student Leadership & Service activities.
  • Operationalize comprehensive annual co-curricular programming for the Office of Student Life supporting the professional, sociocultural, personal, and vocational aims of domestic, hybrid, and international students.
  • Oversee administration and operations for student engagement and community-facing initiatives, including program planning, data and student tracking, departmental evaluation and assessment, and program key performance indicators and benchmarking.
  • Design, plan, and execute signature programming, including Candler's Fall and Spring New Student Orientation, Day of Gratitude, Honors Day, and recurring community-building programming.
  • Direct student initiatives and global resource allocation for international students; oversee international student life activities, hospitality for incoming international students and families, new international student orientation, international student organizations, and coordination with Emory University's International Student and Scholar Services Office.
  • Nurture student matriculation, retention, and academic success through measured coaching, advising, and mentorship frameworks.
  • Oversee international exchange program relations, including recruitment and application processes, preparation and debriefing for overseas study, and onboarding exchange students from partner institutions.
  • Manage daily operations of the Office of Student Life and enforce office policies and procedures.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, staff the office suite, order supplies, coordinate event support, maintain secure electronic files for programming and budgets, and ensure digital communication tools and resources remain current and accessible.
  • Direct departmental marketing and branding activities, including strategic planning and redesign to increase program awareness and brand equity.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of student staff.
  • Supervise a diverse, cross-functional team of student leaders; maintain schedules, assign tasks, oversee event and project management, and provide leadership development and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students on quality improvements, continuous improvement, and strategic planning.
  • Oversee multifaceted projects using a project management system and refer team members to use the system for applicable individual projects.
  • Manage the planning, coordination, and execution of Office of Student Life staff meetings, including event planning, leadership, and training opportunities for student staff.
  • Maintain the Office of Student Life programming budget by managing expenditures and the budget planning process and preparing financial reports.
  • Monitor and prioritize expenditures; prepare deposits; pay invoices; process Professional Development Fund reimbursements and honoraria; submit check requests; prepare expense reports; and submit monthly financial reports.
  • Consult with Candler's chief business officer and senior accountant as needed.
  • Consult and negotiate with the Candler Events Office for event support, especially catering costs.
  • Consult with and advise the student Orientation coordinator on the Orientation budget.
  • Monitor the student employment budget, including projection, allocation, tabulation, and adjustment of hours worked.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with cross-divisional Emory offices and departments to maximize student resource usage.
  • Assist the Director of Career Services in developing and maintaining relationships with alumni, current students, faculty, staff, and other interested parties supporting vocational discernment and professional development initiatives.
  • Participate in regular Student Concerns Committee meetings.
  • Serve as liaison to Emory University Case Management Student Intervention Services.
  • Serve as liaison to Emory University Counseling and Psychological Services.
  • Meet with students individually and in groups as needed.
  • Oversee or assist in developing operational and statistical reports for management and accrediting agencies.
  • Serve on the International Studies Committee.
  • Serve as Candler liaison to Emory University International Student and Scholar Services.

  • Familiarity with programs of theological education, the mission of Candler School of Theology, and the Church.
  • Two years of teaching, student personnel, and/or higher education experience.
