- Complete a formal training program in dysrhythmia recognition and hold certification from that course before performing cardiac Contract Monitor Technician services.
- Hold and maintain an active Basic Life Support certification.
- Be able to accomplish routine work with minimum oversight and perform duties on one's own initiative.
- Be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
- Lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
- Lift up to 20 pounds.
- Carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
- Push and pull with 30 pounds of force.
- Provide knowledge and understanding of normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology, including analyzing echocardiograms to detect abnormalities of left ventricular wall motion and overall cardiac function, prosthetic valve function, cardiac anomalies, findings related to cardiothoracic surgical repairs, and pressure gradients and valve area calculations.
- Understand indications for echocardiographic contrast, including Definity, and administer contrast according to the VA protocol.
- Determine measurements needed for regurgitant lesions and obtain good-quality images, including PISA and continuity equation measurements.
- Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the Echocardiography Laboratory.
- Maintain knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying levels.
- Provide or arrange staff development and training.
