Beyond the pitch: the brands that owned World Cup 2026 in OOH

July 21st, 2026 Beyond the pitch: the brands that owned World Cup 2026 in OOH. To match the energy of what's billed as the biggest sporting event on earth (even bigger than the Olympics apparently), brands staged a massive Out of Home takeover, dominating city centres and roadsides across the UK with reams of World Cup content. OOH is the only way to talk to the whole nation with the same tone of voice, and icons like Piccadilly Lights do it better than any other. With Coca-Cola, ChatGPT and Chase carrying football themed messages on Landsec's landmark, after England's elimination in the semis - dashing a 60 year long dream to finally bring the men's World Cup home - Deliveroo followed through with a big 'Thank you, lads' to the squad for a brilliant run. Elsewhere, multiple brands rose to the occasion throughout the 2026 tournament with an unstoppable flow of tactical spots and attention grabbing ads, using multiple formats to keep outdoor audiences fully entertained and engaged. Here's a few of its favourites: Hydration breaks Lucozade unveiled its summer campaign by transforming London's BFI IMAX with an eye-catching full-building wrap featuring England star Jude Bellingham. Developed by ZEAL, the mammoth installation reinforced Lucozade Sport's position as a trusted performance partner in elite sport. It was planned through WPP and EssenceMediacom. Leith and Tennent's marked Scotland's long-awaited return to football's biggest stage with 'Time to Dream'. Planned through Republic of Media and Talon Manchester, the OOH ads reflected on the emotional highs and lows of fans, alluding to England's goal of 'making '26 our '66', and 'Revenge is a dish best served cold and frothy', a reference to Scotland's previous 1998 World Cup defeat vs Morocco. All Ocean Outdoor Limited can say is bring on 2030. Biscuit icon Tunnock's used the shapes of its famous teacakes and caramel wafers in a lovely 'World Cuppa Champions' campaign to spell out goals across large format screens in Glasgow. The campaign was planned through McGread Outdoor. It's feeding time Marks & Spencer played a blinder with its Manchester mural featuring three Lions - Marc Guéhi (No 6), Jude Bellingham (No10) and Elliot Anderson (No 8), arms around each other's shoulders with the strapline 'It's Feeding Time' written across their shirt backs. Located on Water Street in St John's, planned through WPP and Mural Republic, the work became a viral sensation among football fans. Record breakers Performance and lifestyle footwear brand Skechers renamed London's Canary Wharf 'Kaneary Wharf' in a campaign featuring its global ambassador and England captain Harry Kane across 37 of its small format full motion screens, part of The Loop network. To honour Kane becoming England's all-time leading World Cup scorer, Skechers also unveiled a special edition SKX 2 boot in England's red and white colours. The campaign was planned through Wavemaker and WPP. For every goal Highlighting everyday wins both big and small, Google Gemini used the scale and reach of OOH as part of its integrated World Cup campaign featuring England stars taking on everyday chores with a little bit of 'AI assist'. Planned through EssenceMediacom and WPP. Hitting home For many homeless young people, the missing word in this poster is far more important than an England win. This powerful campaign was created by One Black Bear for the charity St Basils which has been working to prevent homelessness across the West Midlands since 1972. It appeared across Ocean's roadside D6 screens in Birmingham. The fans' cup Back in Scotland, football brought the drama, but one of the more memorable OOH campaigns came from tourism chiefs at Meet Boston. Sealing the glorious meeting of two cultures and inspired by some of the memories created by the 50,000 strong Tartan army when it descended on Boston for Scotland's qualifying matches, it was planned through billups and Allen & Gerritsen. Argos meanwhile tapped into fan rituals and habits surrounding the beautiful game. A series of witty ads used humour to spotlight everyday products in unexpected match-day scenarios. One execution pairs a DeLonghi kettle with the headline 'VAR' (video assistant referee) and a call to action, the combination of bold typography and visual simplicity allowing the football reference to land in an instant. Planning was through Talon and PHD Media. Grassroots legends As banking partner of the England teams, Chase ran a Piccadilly Lights takeover featuring an immersive 3D DeepScreen(R) execution and high impact placements to anchor its campaign spotlighting grassroots football coaches across the UK. The previously unsung influence coaches have on individuals and their communities is celebrated with the tagline, 'Together we go further'. It was planned through WPP and EssenceMediacom. Back of the net In downtown LA, adidas turned heads with its CGI 3D billboard of Lionel Messi's iconic kick. It's one of a series of stunts and installations that made headlines across the Atlantic. Closer to home, the sportswear brand placed England midfielder Jude Bellingham front and centre with a series of banners as part of its 'You Got This' campaign. Both players star in adidas' epic fantasy 'Backyard Legends', another standout use of football talent. Well played adidas.

If the shoe fits...

If the shoe fits... July 14, 2026 | Advertising, Branding, Fashion, Marketing, Messaging The top three shoe brands in the world are Nike, Adidas and... Skechers. Skechers?!? Yup. Founded by Robert Greenburg in 1992 and still run by him and his son (although now owned by 3G Capital, Skechers does over $9 billion in annual revenue and is - in my opinion - one of the business world's most under-appreciated success stories. - Superior technology - Relatively stylish designs - Straightforward ads that demonstrate the technology and the designs why clearly reinforcing the brand Skechers has used a lot of celebrities in their ads over the years, which is a practice I generally criticize. But it's worked beautifully for Skechers because their celebrity ads always make the product - rather than the celebrity - the star. No Skechers ads have ever won a Clio or Cannes award. But what these ads have won is much more important: the business and loyalty of millions of customers. Kudos to Skechers and ad agency Siltanen & Partners for consistently creating ads that fit their product as comfortably and attractively as their shoes fit their customers.

First plant for the US brand in africa: Skechers establishes roots in Algeria.

First plant for the US brand in africa: Skechers establishes roots in Algeria. Algeria is set to host the inaugural African manufacturing facility for the global footwear brand Skechers, with an ambitious target of producing two million pairs of shoes annually to satisfy domestic market demands. Moving forward, the American corporation intends to pivot toward exporting from Algeria, shipping a portion of its output to broader African markets. This venture aligns directly with the national strategy aimed at replacing imports with domestic manufacturing, according to the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. A joint venture treaty was finalized Saturday between the Algerian firm Tradifoot and the international brand Skechers to kickstart footwear manufacturing in Algeria beginning in 2027, establishing the nation as the first African country to secure such an industrial hub. The contract was signed by Douglas Parker, representing the American enterprise, and Djamel Ramoul, Chief Executive Officer of Tradifoot. The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, oversaw the signing ceremony of this partnership agreement. He hosted a delegation from the American company at his ministry's headquarters, which included Douglas Parker, Vice President of Financial Affairs, and Daniel Levy, Vice President of International Sales, alongside executives from the Algerian company Tradifoot. During the event, the minister emphasized the significance of this project, noting it fits squarely within the national policy to replace imports with local production by attracting productive foreign direct investment and fostering partnerships with premium global brands. He remarked that choosing Algeria for Skechers' first African factory demonstrates growing investor trust in the Algerian business climate and mirrors the outcomes of economic reforms introduced by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to diversify the economy and champion local manufacturing. According to specifications provided by the Ministry of Foreign Trade, operations at the factory are scheduled to commence during the first quarter of 2027. The facility will boast a manufacturing capacity of two million pairs of shoes per year with a 40% local integration rate, thereby assisting in import reduction, boosting national manufacturing, and covering local market requirements. Initially, production will cater exclusively to the domestic market before expanding into exports to African nations during the second year of operations, thereby strengthening Algeria's status as a regional industrial and export hub, the same source indicated. The venture also encompasses training programs for the Algerian workforce led by specialists and instructors from Skechers, ensuring a transfer of technical expertise and technology in line with international footwear industry benchmarks. Furthermore, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the finer points of implementing this industrial project, which will position Algeria as the primary manufacturing base for the US brand Skechers across the African continent.

Skechers to relocate German HQ to Mainhausen.

Skechers to relocate German HQ to Mainhausen. May 19, 2026 Skechers is relocating its German headquarters from Dietzenbach to the ANWR Group campus in Mainhausen, with plans to consolidate the company's German offices and showroom in a new building on the site. The move is scheduled for mid-2028. According to the ANWR Group, the planned new building will comprise approximately 4.500 square meters. With this addition, the campus will further expand its role as a hub for order and presentation for the footwear, sports, and lifestyle industries. Currently, more than 100 brands are represented with permanent showrooms. "Mainhausen offers us the ideal conditions to further consolidate our European activities and move closer to our retail partners," said Christoph Wilkens, managing director of Skechers USA Germany GmbH, in a statement. "Our presence on the ANWR campus allows us to engage in more intensive dialogue with retailers and creates optimal conditions for sustainable growth in Europe." "With the new building, spanning approximately 4,500 square meters, Sgbonline is sending a strong signal together with Skechers. Another global player has chosen its location. This makes its campus even more relevant for the European trade and underscores the close, trusting collaboration with its partners," said Tobias Eichmeier, chief commercial officer of the ANWR Group. "This decision confirms our ambition to be a central, Europe-wide ordering and meeting point for trade and industry. Our retail partners, in particular, will benefit from the even closer integration with the brand and the expanded on-site presentation opportunities." Image courtesy Skechers
