Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience, are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislative trends affecting benefits programs is required.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the planning, implementation, coordination, operation, and evaluation of the University Benefits Program as part of the University's strategic planning.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and supervision of the Benefits Office's activities and operations, including managing one or more areas of the benefits program and division functions.
  • Assist in the overall development and management of the University Benefits Program and Benefits Office.
  • Provide professional direction to staff.
  • Oversee changes in benefit plans, practices, and procedures and assist in evaluating recommendations for improvements.
  • Oversee communication and promotion of benefit programs to University faculty, staff, and retirees.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the day-to-day activities of the Benefits Office.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement operational changes to increase department effectiveness.
  • Assume full management responsibility in the Director's absence.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and counsel to Benefits Office staff.
  • Develop staff talent, motivate staff, recognize and reward contributions, hold staff accountable for performance goals, and address low performance.
  • Observe the operation of benefit plans and reactions from faculty, staff, and retirees; evaluate effectiveness; and recommend changes or improvements to plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate and interpret benefit plans, policies, procedures, and services to the University community, including resolving individual and group concerns.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data for special project assignments.
  • Keep abreast of trends affecting the Benefits Program, including changes in state and federal legislation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
